It is with great sadness that the family of Wai Leung Chin announces his sudden passing on October 5, 2025, at the age of 70.

Wai will be lovingly remembered by his wife, May Chin, his children, Christopher and Caitlin, and by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He was the second eldest of the late Lung Poy Chin and the late Bik Yee Lee — brother Wei (Madeleine) nieces Tiffany (John), Melanie (Ben), Genevieve (Nathan); brother Bill (Margaret) niece Veronica, nephew William; and brother Wilson (Me-Loi) nieces Rebecca (Davir), Emily (Brandon), Carolyn (Phil) nephew Matthew (Kelsey).

Wai grew up in Montreal surrounded by family and laughter. Later, he started his career in Ottawa, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, and raise two children together.

A Concordia University graduate in Computer Science, Wai built a distinguished career with the Bank of Canada, Canada Post, Andersen Consulting, and Innovapost.

Wai was passionate about his collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia, golf, hockey, mah-jong, and especially enjoyed eating lobster, one of his lifelong favourites. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father — supportive, kind, and deeply loved by those who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. and burial at 2:00 p.m. at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (Beechwood National Memorial Centre), located at 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. A reception will follow after.

For those who wish to do so, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Wai will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

So very sad to hear of Chinny’s passing. He knew me as Rita Chan, part of the Chinese Georgian Association. Chinny was a good friend during those college years. A very special man with a kind heart. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May the wonderful memories you shared carry you through this difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers. Rita

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Chinny. In our Sir George/Concordia University days Chinny was always cheerful and usually was the smartest person in the room. He is athletic and excelled in any sport he participates in. He always beats me in foosball and ping pong.

Chinny will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences to May, Christopher and Caitlin.

Waileung and I( Gordon )studied computer science at Concordia University. During our university years we would play hockey and bowling with our Concordia friends. After graduating we both moved to Ottawa and lived in the St Laurent area. In these early years we played golf regularly together. Over time we both got married had kids and settled into homes in the Kanata area. We will sorely miss him. Deepest condolences to May, Christopher, Caitlin and his larger family.

I am sadden to hear that Chinny had passed away. Condolences to May, Christopher, and Caitlin. I remember him in his uni days: playing hockey, mahjong and hiding Coca-cola in his closet. Even breaking his leg skiing; no wonder he took up golf. Sadly, we did not stay in touch (life got in the way). I will always smile when I think of him.
