Peacefully on December 24, 2024, aged 92. Youngest daughter of the late Charles Tupper Conrad and Elizabeth (Corbin) of Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Beloved wife of Lieutenant Colonel (Retd,) Peter F. Heenan, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA). Loving mother of Major (Retd,) Paul J. Heenan, RCA, (Joyce Williams) and Beth Heenan, (the late Sergeant John Cunha, Ottawa Police Services). Devoted and much-loved grandmother of Jessica (Ryan Carlson) and Lilian (Kevin Lum), and of Michelle (Evan Johnston) and Sabrina (Ensign Desmond Bourdain, USN). Recent great-grandmother to Rowan and John.  Loved and supportive aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, her brother Charles, sister-in-law Helen (Snow), her oldest sister Jean (Jellett) and brother-in-law, Commander (Retd) J. David Jellett, RCN; her sister, Dulcie, of Halifax, and her youngest brother, D. Irving (Marcia Hartt) of Enfield, Connecticut.

Born in Sussex, New Brunswick on the 12th of December 1932, Alice and her family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1933.  She married Lieutenant Peter Heenan, RCA of Halifax, in 1954 and served with him in Sault Saint Marie, in Picton, in Kingston and in Ottawa, Ontario; in Winnipeg, Manitoba; in El Paso, Texas, in Washington, D.C. in the USA; and overseas with NATO Forces in West Germany.

Alice cherished family time during many summers at Halifax and Hyfield Farm, Chester NS. She was reunited with Peter at Carleton Lodge Home (Ottawa) five months ago. She especially enjoyed family visits and receiving many photos of her great grandsons and completing jigsaw puzzles. It would have been their 70th anniversary this December 30th.

A loving daughter, a loyal sister, a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Alice was an exceptional person, always ready to help her family and friends. Her heart-lifting spirit, sense of humour, strength of character, and presence among us, made the world a better place. She will be dearly remembered and deeply missed.  Requiescat in Pace.

Special thanks to the staff, care providers and residents of West Carleton Village (Carleton Lodge) who welcomed Alice into the community and provided her with cheerful support and compassion, especially during her time of need.

A family funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada and Arthritis Society Canada would be greatly appreciated.

Mom was able to join Dad in long-term care and share her last days with her husband of 70 years. For this we are thankful. While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the great life she lived. Rest in peace mom, you are not forgotten. With love.

Although I didn’t get to know her very well, I’m grateful I had the chance to meet her.

Love you, Granny. Thank you for making my childhood so fun and special. I’ll always remember how excited I was to visit you and to find those little chocolate eggs in the "magic flower." I’ll hold on to those memories forever.

I’ll always remember Mrs Heenan growing up. She was always so warm and welcoming.

May she rest well and you all find peace with her passing.

Alice was always “upfront” and helpful. A great sister in law with a good sense of humour. I remember that she laughed a lot. I met Alice in the airport on her way to marry my brother Peter. They eloped, and didn’t tell anyone! Hard to believe I knew her for more than 70 years. She was a great addition to our family.
She and Peter participated in, and enjoyed a good life.
Hugs, David

Alice, was a gem as an Aunt. Mark and I fondly remember her last visit to BC when she and Peter came to visit Dad (David) in Comox . In typical Heenan fashion, the boys had a heated discussion about something. Alice was so funny. Saying how she was used to the Heenans and their shenanigans over the years. She advised Mark to let them get it out of their system. As always, completely, non plussed!

Aunt Alice was such a special woman, and I feel so blessed to have had her and Uncle Peter as my Godparents. Throughout my childhood and adulthood, they were always there for me, offering love and support. Aunt Alice's smile could light up a room, and she always welcomed everyone with the warmest hugs. She had such a positive spirit—I honestly never saw her unhappy. Her kindness and joy will forever be remembered.

Rest in peace, Aunt Alice. Sending all our love to the family during this difficult time.

With love,
Nancy and family
