It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Captain (Retired) Dave Honey in his 85th year after a short battle with recurrent cancer.  He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully.  Dave was predeceased by his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Carol (née Cox) who passed in 2021.  Nov 14 2024 would have been their 60th wedding anniversary.  Dave is survived by his daughters Liisa Honey (Doug Cochen), and Lara Russell (Bob), as well as his grandchildren Emma, Liam, Nile and Elena.

Dave was born in Fort Erie and served with 2 RCR in London and Germany and with the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Edmonton before embarking on a series of extra-regimental appointments with the UN in Kashmir, the Regular Support Staff in the Hamilton area, the Special Service Force as an Airborne LO to Air Transport Group and a staff officer at CFB Kingston. Dave was a valued messmate and a consummate professional Infantry leader.

After retiring from the military, Dave took up sailing.  He and Carol embarked on an epic journey from Kingston to the Caribbean in their trusty 28 ft Catalina named Bear Pause.  They enjoyed many adventures and travel with family, friends and grandkids.  Dave was always surrounded by friends as his sense of humour and lighthearted demeanour put everyone at ease.

A joint celebration of life for Dave and Carol will take place on Friday November 15th at the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON after 1 p.m. Interment of Dave and Carol's urns will follow at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society

I was terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, Liisa and Lara. I regret that I won't be able to join you as you honour the lives of both your mom and dad. I have such fond childhood memories of your parents, and my mom always shares such fond memories of your whole family. Sending my deepest of sympathies to you and your extended family at this emotional time.

The "village" that helped raise my boys is getting smaller much too fast. I will miss these two Honeys (and I mean honeys) very deeply. Much love to the family.

Dear Liisa, Lara and your families,
Norm and I extend our condolences during this time of loss. We have fond memories of both of your parents/grandparents. Dave showed incredible courage and loyalty to enable Carol to attend her 50th class reunion for the Mack Training School for Nurse's.
We were pleased to meet Emma during one of our visits to Arbour Heights to see Carol and Dave. Later we reminisced over lunch at the Portsmouth Tavern with Dave.
Regretfully we are unable to be with you for Dave and Carol's Celebration of Life. You will be forever in our hearts.
Love and Hugs, Dot (Davidson) Moyer '65 Nursing Classmate

I was very sad to miss the celebration of life for Dave and Carol. Since I met my in-laws 25 years ago, the Walden's, I heard only wonderful things and fun stories about the Honey's. Dave and Carol were cherished lifelong friends of the family and I was lucky enough to meet them on a number of occasions. I hope these beautiful memories are helping to bring comfort at this difficult time. I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends.

Carol and Dave were easy to be around. Since I was a young child I was struck by their kind, quiet, fun demeanour. Reading his jump logs last night of his 137 paratrooper jumps made me reflect on what a tough infanteer he was and how humble he was about his career. Lifelong friends to our family and especially my parents, Anita and Jim, it is a heartfelt loss for us all. Liisa and Lara, and your families, I hope you can find comfort in the love of your family and friends, and good memories of your mom and dad.
