Our beloved mother, Adèle Hanna Assaad, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at her residence in Ottawa. She was 96 years young.
Adèle was born in Hilta, Lebanon, and had a strong attachment to Tannourine, her mother’s hometown. She lived in Beirut as a child and young teenager, where she discovered her talent for singing and playing the Oud. She set out to be a singer and sang live on the radio in Beirut for a while, but when she met our dad (the late Halim Sayah) she decided to get married and moved with him to Kfarshima, where they had a great large family. She continued to sing and play the Oud almost daily and at special celebrations. Not only was she talented and beautiful, Adèle was funny, fair, and forgiving.
Adèle left behind 3 generations: her children Houda, Raymond, Sami, Nina, Noha, Tony (we miss you very much, brother), Nada, Pierre, Paul and Michel and their partners. Grandchildren Nick, Mark, Steven, Ralph, Peggy, Pamela, Oliver, Jim, Kevin, Ramsey, Ronaldo, Sam, Monia, Tracy, Ted, Percy, Jason, Lamech, Ernest, Benjamin and Nigel and their partners, and a generation of great-grandchildren. As well as close family members here in Canada and in Lebanon, especially her dear nieces and nephews.
She built a strong foundation of love for the whole family to go on for generations. We are missing her greatly, but her memory will keep us going strong.
Family and friends are invited to Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), for a Visitation on Thursday, November 14th, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Charbel Parish on Friday, November 15th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Beechwood Cemetery. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Adèle, please do so towards St. Chabel Parish.
