It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Captain (Retired) Dave Honey in his 85th year after a short battle with recurrent cancer.  He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully.  Dave was predeceased by his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Carol (née Cox) who passed in 2021.  Nov 14 2024 would have been their 60th wedding anniversary.  Dave is survived by his daughters Liisa Honey (Doug Cochen), and Lara Russell (Bob), as well as his grandchildren Emma, Liam, Nile and Elena.

Dave was born in Fort Erie and served with 2 RCR in London and Germany and with the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Edmonton before embarking on a series of extra-regimental appointments with the UN in Kashmir, the Regular Support Staff in the Hamilton area, the Special Service Force as an Airborne LO to Air Transport Group and a staff officer at CFB Kingston. Dave was a valued messmate and a consummate professional Infantry leader.

After retiring from the military, Dave took up sailing.  He and Carol embarked on an epic journey from Kingston to the Caribbean in their trusty 28 ft Catalina named Bear Pause.  They enjoyed many adventures and travel with family, friends and grandkids.  Dave was always surrounded by friends as his sense of humour and lighthearted demeanour put everyone at ease.

A joint celebration of life for Dave and Carol will take place on Friday November 15th at the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON after 1 p.m. Interment of Dave and Carol's urns will follow at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society

Oh Lara I am so sorry to hear about your dad, and mom as well. They will be celebrating their anniversary with each other, and thinking of that, I hope it brings comfort and a smile to your face, knowing that they are once again together. Stay strong, and my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dave got me into boating while in Kingston with his many stories of his sailing travels.
Many laughs were had with this fantastic Royal Canadian. RIP Dave, you won;t be forgotten.

Heartfelt condolences to Liisa, Lara and families. We have been friends with Dave and Carol since first meeting them as a brand new couple to the Regiment in 1966. We served together in West Germany with 2RCR and remained friends ever since. We remember fondly Dave’s habit of talking softly as if everything was a secret and Carol’s kindness and her always being willing to help . They were very special people who we will always remember fondly and smile when we think of them.

I grew up with David, going through Public School, than High School in Fort Erie. In those early years we were the best of friends. On occasion we even double dated, with David driving his father's car, and me in the back. Of course we had our girlfriends. Those were innocent days.
