On August 13, 2024, at the age of 71, Dermot died peacefully after a prolonged battle with ALS. He leaves behind his wife, Mary, his daughter, Susan (Mark Palmer), his son, Mike (Nicola McGroarty) and two cherished grand-daughters, Evelyn and Maeve. He will also be missed by his brother and sister, Pat Nally and Joan O’Neill, as well as his friends and extended family.

Born in Ireland, Mary and Dermot emigrated to Canada in 1987 with their children and built a life together in Ottawa. Dermot was a rugby player, wood-worker, volunteer, and a life-long supporter of the Crystal Palace Football Club.

Dermot lived life to the fullest and was sad to ‘leave the party early’.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of life on Thursday September 5th, 2024, at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa: 1-2pm Service; and 2-4pm reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Society of Canada.

Very sorry to hear this sad news.
Deepest sympathies to all the Nally family. We go back a long way to the OYOA music days. Dermot was a great guy with a super sense of humour which brightened up many early Saturday mornings.
Our condolences to all the Nally family from all the Cooney family.

On behalf of me and of the Ottawa Tool Library, please accept our condolences on Dermot's passing. Dermot was integral to the success of the OTL, as a strong and able volunteer and mentor to our membership - always handy with a joke or a story, always ready with good advice, always delivered with thoughtful kindness. We miss you.

Dear Mary, Susan, Mike and the Nally and Joy families, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Dermot was one of nature’s gentlemen, always cheerful and considerate with all he met. He was a great asset to the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish family - giving generously of his time and talents for the good of all, he will be missed, but we were all blessed by having known him. May Dermot’s Soul, and the Souls of all the Faithful Departed, Rest in Peace. Blessings, Moira
