The family of Izaak Murray is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing on May 11, 2024, at the age of 19. Izaak was studying computer science at Carleton University, Ottawa, and an Officer Cadet with the Canadian Military. He graduated from Riverview High School in Riverview, NB.

Izaak enjoyed time in the water. He worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor and played water polo in Riverview. He also enjoyed time on the ice. Izaak was a curler and enjoyed representing The Netherlands in Finland at the World Junior B Level tournament in 2022.

His interest in technology started at a young age. In high school, Izaak was involved in CyberTitan and CyberPatriot cyber defence competitions and was a leader of his high school tech crew. In his spare time, Izaak enjoyed flying drones, building his own computers and constructing complex Lego sets.

Izaak had a musical side and found joy in playing the guitar. He enjoyed a good game of chess, and other games, always with a competitive spirit. Most of all, he loved spending time with friends and sharing a good laugh.

He was a great friend to others and was always looking to help his friends and family. He will be forever remembered by his parents, George and Minouska Murray, five siblings Patrick (Maddie), Joshua (Audrey), Lauren, Michael, and Micah, grandmother (Oma) Felica Eduardo, nephew Elijah, several aunts, uncles, cousins in Canada and The Netherlands, his loving girlfriend and steadfast friend Celia Boyd, and numerous friends from across Canada. He will be especially missed by his lifelong friend Lucas, Lucas’ parents, Terry and Julie Melanson, and bonus grampy Peter Scribner.

Family and friends are invited to join the memorial service to pay their respects at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the National Military Cemetery.

There is a powerful darkness that can block the light from the love of family and friends. It is with immeasurable grief that we share that our Izaak has lost his struggle to this darkness. We hope his loving kindness and sense of humour live on with you who knew him and that someday we can smile as we remember his kind soul. Donations to mental health charities of your choice would be appreciated.

Mr. Rawlines

Dear Murray Family,

I am deeply saddened by the news of Izaak's passing. I had the privilege of knowing Izaak as a teacher and staff advisor at RHS, and his loss is profoundly felt by all of us who had the honour of sharing in his journey.

Izaak was a remarkable young man, distinguished by his kindness, intelligence, and unique spirit. He had an innate ability to connect with those around him, leaving a lasting impression on both his peers and his teachers. His inquisitive mind and genuine curiosity about the world were inspiring. Izaak’s presence in the classroom, backstage, onstage, theatre, gymnasium, Cyber rooms, and community was a beacon of light, and his contributions were invaluable.

More than a student, Izaak was a cherished member of our school and local community. His empathy and compassion for others created a ripple effect, touching the hearts of everyone he met. He had a rare gift for making people feel seen and valued, a testament to his exceptional character. Izaak's absence will be deeply felt, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

In moments of profound sorrow, we often search for meaning and understanding. While words may seem inadequate, it is important to remember that Izaak's life had a significant impact. He taught us about the importance of kindness, the power of connection, and the beauty of a compassionate heart. His legacy will continue to inspire us to be better, to love more deeply, and to appreciate the preciousness of life.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. May you find solace in the memories of the joy and love Izaak brought into our lives.

With heartfelt condolences,

M. Rawlines

Hi George... to you, your wife, your family and extended family of friends your son had gathered & collected, may you ALL be comforted by the character that Izaak truly was & the people he had collected and made his impression upon during his short stay in this unforgiving world we all live in. Such a shock to you all would be an understatement as I look at his age and it truly makes the mind wonder as to all the "what ifs" that could have happened. Life is so unforgiving at times and may he be in a better place and may all of those affected by his sudden passing rest at ease as he has moved on in in untimely manner. Sending a big hug to everyone that needs one and may the joys of his presence live on in your memories. Thinking of you and your family at this time George. God Bless him and may he R.I.P.
