It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of the much beloved Roberta Mary Longbottom (née Neale), in this her 91st year.  She died peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family, a family of which she was immensely proud.

Known fondly as Bobbie, she leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Roy Longbottom, daughter Susan (Pierre Ricard) and son David (Carrie Colton).   She was a fiercely proud grandma to Zachary Colton, Martin Ricard (Victoria) and Marie Pier Ricard (Xavier).  Great grandma to Florence, Edmond, Liam and Mikayla.

Bobbie was born in Barrie, but Ottawa was home for 85 of her 91 years.   She was a true community builder, a person who gave herself and her precious time selflessly to the betterment of others.   When she saw a need, she met it, and when she saw a gap, she filled it, choosing action over words each and every time.   Summer camps, Sunday schools, public schools, Girl Guides, army regiments, tennis clubs and political parties alike all benefited from Bobbie's initiative and work ethic, and were left better off for it.

Friends and family are invited to attend a remembrance service at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church at 125 MacKay St, Ottawa on Wednesday, May 8th at 11AM, with a reception to follow. It is street parking only around St. Bartholomew’s so please allow yourselves plenty of extra time (30 mins) to find a spot.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobbie's honour can be made to a community cause of your choosing.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved mother. My condolences to the Dave, Susan, Roy and the family. At 90 years, she lived a life filled with moments that I’m sure were as wonderful and enduring as her spirit.

Dear Col Roy, I have just learned the news and wished to pass on my sincere condolences. After reading her obituary it is clear that she had a beautiful life filled with family and friends. I remember meeting her at many Regimental functions and always thought she was a gracious and kind person.
