Passed away peacefully at Perley Health in Ottawa on Saturday, February 24, 2024; age 82. Beloved husband of the late Jory Parent (Kelly). Loving father of Calleigh and PJ (Laurie). Cherished grandfather of Jack, Sam, and Sarah.

His military career included being C Company Commander of the Airborne Regiment in Edmonton, being the Aide de Camp to Lord Mountbatten during the trooping of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry colours in Calgary, completing tours with UNFICYP in Cyprus, seconded to Foreign Affairs Canada as the Military Attache to Namibia when that country was seeking its independence, and finally being appointed the Commanding Officer of the Recruiting Center in London ON, bringing his career full circle.

With Jory, he loved, sharing wine, food, and many stories with friends. He will be missed by many who crossed paths with the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 7th at 2:00 PM in the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. I was so saddened to read Doug's name on the Board when I went in to visit my husband at Perley Health. I have known Doug for many years and have many good memories of him and his wife Jory. My condolences to the family and I plan on paying my respects to him at his service. May he rest in peace.

Doug was a fine Officer & Soldier. Friendly, courteous, and very competent. Easy going, but no pushover! Both graduates of US Special Forces training, we bonded even more over that. A strong steady person. Loved by all ranks. He will be missed by all who knew him! 🇨🇦🪖⚔️

Yes, it is a sad day indeed, to hear that Capt."Yogi Bear" PARENT my first Airborne Company Commander has passed away, may he rest in peace.
I had a lot of time for Yogi one of my better Company Commanders and well suited for the Airborne regiment. Between Yogi and CSM Clee it was a pleasure serving under their command and will be long remembered.
