Dr. Lennox O’Reilly Hinds was born in Newtown Kitty, Georgetown, Guyana, South America. Son of Dorothy Lydia (Bhola) Hinds and Herman Hinds. Lennox is predeceased by Ashton, Bradley, Neville, and Dawn (Hinds) Greaves.
He leaves to mourn his wife Marjorie and son, Sean (Jennifer); his former wife Hermina and children, Nicholette, Herman Anthony (Donna) and Fidel (Gillian); his grandchildren Tashana, Joseph, Cohen, Cole, and Connor; great-grandson Joshua; his siblings June, Lynette, Cherrill, Aubrey (Patricia); numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, close friends and colleagues.
Educated at the College of Fisheries, NL; University of Rhode Island, and the University of Wales (Ph.D). Lennox worked at CIDA, and Marine Affairs, Fisheries and Oceans Canada as a Fisheries Specialist and Senior Advisor for 35 years.
Lennox was proud of his lead role in the development and commercialization of the crab and shrimp industry in Newfoundland; his work with third world countries for the development of their fisheries sectors, and his contributions at the UN and other international fora on behalf of the Canadian Government.
Fine Arts collector, gourmet cook, promoter of democracy and political engagement, Lennox has left his mark and made this world a better place.
A visitation will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the time of Len’s Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. in the Sacred Space. Interment and reception will follow.
