DWAYNE R DARLING

It is with heart-felt and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dwayne Raymond Francis Darling, in his 76th year, on December 20, 2023 in Ottawa.
Predeceased by his parents Margaret (Foley) and Raymond Darling, niece Tammy Abbas (Lapensée) and brother-in-Law, Robert Brunton (Sharon).
Dwayne will be treasured always and loved forever by his high-school sweetheart and devoted wife of 54 years, Jude (Brunton), best friend and treasured dad of Tara and David (Laura), adored grandfather of Acacia (Zach) and Tanner Lavigne, Jaden, Kalli and Declan Darling, great-grandfather of Hunter Loyer, and much-loved and cherished brother of Patricia Lapensée (Marcel) and Beverley Darling (Ted Martyn), and God-father of Jeffrey Lapensée and Karen Ashrafhosseini (Meehan).
Survived by his brother-in-Law, Wayne Brunton (Maureen), sister-in-Law, Darlene Meehan (Michael), and close and much-loved cousins Gerri (Rice) and Dwayne Guy, as well as three generations of adored and much-loved nieces and nephews.
Born in Ottawa in 1948, Dwayne attended St. Patrick’s High School before embarking on a rewarding and successful career as a financial advisor in the Federal Government and National Gallery of Canada.
An avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan, he enjoyed following all types of sports and could talk about any player or team with anyone that wanted to crack open a beer with him. He spent many years as Manager of the Cumberland Barons and Ottawa Capital Summer Hockey teams.
Dwayne enjoyed an early retirement and had dinner and a glass of red waiting for Jude every day while she continued to work for a few more years.
Many years were spent cruising the Caribbean, Panama, Alaska and the Mediterranean with Jude and family. Dwayne was quiet and a man of few words but was known for his quick-witted sense of humour. Although he avoided being the centre of attention, he was always there watching everyone else and thoroughly enjoying all our families’ outrageous antics over many decades.
Dwayne loved spending time at the treasured family cottage where he could be found sitting on the upper deck overlooking the lake sipping his coffee or beer and loving all the activity going on around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes favorite memories of Dwayne in the form of messages and cards, or should you wish, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or Kidney Foundation of Canada.

I'm saddened by this news. I first met Dwayne in 1983. Sports guy. Money man for the Gallery.Enjoyed the odd beer with him.Just one of the best people I've met.My deepest condolences to Jude and the family.
Dwayne and I worked together at the National Gallery in the late 1970's. While he was quiet and shy he carried out his responsibilities with competency, without fanfare and integrity. The Gallery was very lucky to have Dwayne to ensure that the finances of the Gallery were spent consistent with the Financial Administration Act. He treated his staff with respect and with recognition of their skills. I will raise a glass to Dwayne in memory of a very special human being who worked in a difficult environment.
