It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Capt. Elizabeth (Betty) Fleck retired, Salvation Army Officer, who entered eternal rest and went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Christmas Day.

Betty was born May 11, 1935 in Ottawa. She was predeceased by her parents Edith (née Hempstead) and Charles Smith and her beloved son Brian.

Betty is survived by her three remaining children Dale (Debbie), Deborah (William), Kevin (Shirley) and daughter-in-law, Maurina.  Betty loved her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

It is without question that Betty’s greatest joy was helping others and sharing God’s Word to which she did boundlessly.

Friends are invited to assemble on Friday, December 29th 2023 in the Sacrerd Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre. 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa , ON after 12 noon, followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers we would be most grateful if you would consider a donation to the Salvation Army Grace Manor Long Term Care Home.

My sincere condolences. I will miss seeing and chatting with Betty. Just a few weeks ago we were singing Christmas carols and getting ready for bingo - she always made me smile.

Dale and family, I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I will miss her singing and clapping and smiles at hymn sings at the Grace. The music always seemed to bring her joy. My sincere condolences.

Debbie and Family

Our hearts and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. We have many memories of Betty. Perhaps the fondest is when she delivered such kind words at Lorna’s Memorial Service in 2009. May she rest in peace.

Debbie and family,
I was very saddened to learn of your mother’s passing. I have lovely memories of your Mom smiling and giggling at the lunch table with Bill. I am so glad I went over and spoke to your Mom and gave her a hug the day Bill passed. She was such a sweet, dear lady. My sincere condolences to you and all your family.
