It is with immense sadness that the Boivin and Villeneuve families announce the sudden passing of Dr. Daniel Boivin at the age of 58.

Beloved and adored father of Olivier Boivin-Villeneuve, Daniel is also survived by his loving mother Henriette Bastien (late Denis Boivin), his siblings Francyn, Myshel (Ginette Gervais) and Sylvie, as well as many nieces and nephews, Manon (Francyn), Sophie (his goddaughter), Patrick, Pamela and Gino (Myshel), and Ève and Rémi Gagnon (Anne Villeneuve and Claude Gagnon).

He is also survived by his former partner of 18 years and father to his child, Jean-Bruno Villeneuve, countless friends, colleagues and Moya, his cat.

A consummate and dedicated professional, Daniel studied medicine at Sherbrooke University before establishing himself as a trusted and sought after Internal medicine specialist with a focus in intensive care medicine, infectious diseases, lipids management and cardiac care. Early in his career he founded the Immunodeficiency Centre at the Gatineau Hospital, the first of its kind in Western Quebec, and was also a visiting specialist for metabolic complications of HIV treatment at L’Actuel in Montreal – one of the few such specialists in the country at that time. Later in his career, Daniel turned his focus to cardiac care and hospitalist work with flourishing careers at the Ottawa Cardiovascular Centre and the Monfort Hospital – where he worked until his unexpected passing.

His family, friends and colleagues will miss his generosity and sense of humour. Above all, Daniel was an epicurean and an avid pursuer of creative ventures. His loved ones will remember countless memorable and elaborate feasts he meticulously planned and executed. He was also a classically trained singer and achieved instructor level certification in Ikebana – one of his great passions.

A memorial service will take place at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre in Ottawa on Sunday December 10, 2023 at 11am, followed by a Reception, 280, Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, Olivier, Daniel and Jean-Bruno’s son, wishes for donations to be made in honour of his late father to The Ottawa Mission. www.ottawamission.com

I have referred many patients over the years to Dr. Boivin and he always treated them with compassion and professionalism. My patients were happy and appreciative of his care. I was saddened to hear of his passing.

Rest in peace my friend. I will never forget your laugh and our conversations. In that big body of yours, there was the heart of a child. You were caring and considerate and empathetic. You were bigger than life. We shared happy and difficult moments. I miss the dinners and the activities. Working with you at OCC and Montfort has been a privilege to me. See you in the after life my friend.
