It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, in Ottawa; age 82. The beloved husband of Frances Haines (nee Morris). Cherished father of Nancy (Norm) and Barbara (Dale). Grandfather or better known as “Bumpa” of Phillip, Richard, Matthew, Meaghan and Rebecca and great-grandfather of Theodore and Sebastien. Brother of Dale (Elaine), Linda (Gary), Rick, Terry (Debbie) and Kelly (Blair). He will also be sadly missed by many nieces’, nephews, and friends.

Ron was born on August 1st, 1941, in Burtts Corner, New Brunswick, where he came from a family of farmers. Eventually, his immediate family moved to Long Sault, near Cornwall, where he grew up. In 1962, Ron married the love of his life and moved to Ottawa to start his family and they would have two girls.

Ron served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Telecommunications at CFB Leitrim for 25 years. After retiring from the military, he went into computer programming working at Alphatext and later Doculink until retiring, again, many years later.

Ron loved to fix and build things. There was rarely something that he couldn’t fix. He was a self-taught woodworker who in recent years, built things like furniture, cabinets, and toys for the great grand-children. He was very generous by sharing his knowledge of woodworking with the grandkids.

Ron was kind and gentle and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be forever in our hearts.

Family and friends are invited to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), for a Visitation on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service in Beechwood’s Sacred Space at 10:00 a.m., Interment to take place at Beechwood Cemetery. Reception to follow.  For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Ron, please consider doing so to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
