It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Beulah Mayes (nee Kimewon).  She left us suddenly by a heart attack on July 5, 2023, at the age of 75, at the St. Vincent’s Hospital, in Ottawa, ON.

Beulah, daughter of Angeline and Wilfred Kimewon (both predeceased), was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend.

She was the loving mother to Randy Mayes (Renald Chauret) (Gatineau, QC), and Caldin Kimewon (Rachel George) (Wiikwemkoong), and special honourary mother to Sharon Griffin (Ian Card) (Ottawa).

Loving grandmother to Julianna Mayes (Ottawa), Jenna Mayes (predeceased) (Alex), Katrina Webkamigad (Sudbury), Tanner Webkamigad (Sudbury), Calista Kimewon (Sudbury), and step-grandmother to Randy Pitawanakwat (Paula) (Sudbury), Brittainy Webkamigad (Ottawa), and Caydence Webkamigad (Sudbury).

She leaves behind her loving great-granddaughter Delilah Ewer-Mayes (Ottawa), with whom she cared so deeply for and step-grandson Rory Pitawanakwat (Sudbury).

Beulah was the loving sister to Leonard Kimewon (predeceased), Marjorie Kimewon (Wiikwemkoong), Bonita M. Kaboni (predeceased), Elaine Kimewon (predeceased), Teresa Kimewon (predeceased), Howard Kimewon (Michigan), Eugene Kimewon (Wiikwemkoong), Danny Kimewon (Natalka) (Saugeen), Emily Kimewon (Toronto), and Wanda Kimewon (Wiikwemkoong).

She was the loving auntie to: Vivian, Blaine (predeceased), Larry, Marilyn and Marlene;
Brian, Lisa (predeceased), Clint, Rodney and Lesley; Trish (predeceased), Jason, Amy, Nicole and Ryan; Denise and John-John; Shannon and Shelley; Leslie (predeceased), Darren, Daniel, Angeline, Koby, Keyanna and Ira; Stephanie, Jimmy Joe, Cody, Keesha and Wilfred.

Beulah was loved by so many of her cousins, extended family, and dear friends and there are so many to mention, but the following families meant so much to her:  Ozawagosh family, Wassegijig family, Recollet family, Mayes family, Godin family, Hardisty family, Osawamick family, Stevens-Paquette family, Pitawanakwat family, Trudeau family, St. George family, Manitowabi family, Nahwegahbow family, Toulouse family, Cryan family, Lute family, Boissoneau family, Charney family, O’Neil family, Day family, Musqua family, and so, so many more.

Beulah was such an amazing soul and touched so many people throughout her life, and everyone had a special place in her heart, as they did for her. Beulah was always so giving, and she would even give the shirt off her back, and even help and give to people when it wasn’t in her means to do so. That’s just the way she was.  Saying “no” to her when she offered help or gifts was useless, she would go ahead and do it anyways.  That was Beulah.

A seamstress by trade, she leaves behind her creativity and memories of the numerous beautiful intricate quilts she made, sweetgrass turtles, adventures of picking sweetgrass, homemade pies and bread, nuggish (blood sausages), and CHICKEN DIVINE, beaded moccasins, curtains, bed sheets, etc.  You name it, she probably did it!

Everyone will miss her random phone calls to see how they are doing, calls to take her to Costco or Walmart, surprise gifts, her visits, invitations for supper.

Beulah joins her granddaughter Jenna in the spirit world, with whom she was heartbroken when she left us too soon, and they are together forever now.  She is at peace and continues her next journey in life with those who are in the spirit world.

Rest in peace!  You will be dearly missed.

Service will be held for family and friends on Tuesday July 11, 2023 at Beechwood National Memorial Centre 280 Beechwood Avenue Ottawa, ON from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Following the service, there will be an informal gathering with food at Odawa Native Friendship Centre 815 St. Laurent Blvd. Ottawa, ON for 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Throughout Beulah’s time in Ottawa, she was involved with the Minwaashin Lodge.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to, either or both, to the Minwaashin Lodge at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/52987?v2=true, so that the programs they deliver can continue to help the community
