Wendy died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 63 years old, after her battle with Cancer.   She was intelligent, caring and a very kind person to everyone.

Wendy Cleary was born in Kingston, Ontario, and she grew up in Toronto, where she met her future husband Dan Delorey when she was just 17 and he was 19 years old. Over the course of 46 years, they built their lives together brick by brick. Their love was extraordinary in their commitment and dedication to supporting each other through every milestone and challenge for over four decades. It was the everyday kind of love, full of comfort and warmth, and with each other they are always at home no matter where life took them.

They lived together for over ten years and then married when Dan joined the RCMP, then moved to Saskatchewan where she became a mother to Amanda and Cameron Delorey. She was a stay-at-home mom and invested all her efforts to be the best mother she could be. The family followed Dan to postings in Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and eventually Ottawa.

Wendy went back to working life after many years at home.  She held various administrative positions at the National RCMP Headquarters.  It was quite a remarkable achievement considering that Wendy was at home raising her kids when the working environment transitioned from files and paper to a completely electronic computer environment.  Wendy adapted to the technology gap to prove herself with every challenge and became the go-to person for many of her colleagues.

Wendy retired from the RCMP in 2019.  She spent her summers with Dan sailing to every corner of Lake Ontario.  She also traveled to Merida, Mexico for the winter months and considered it her second home, establishing lasting loving friendships.

Wendy was a devoted spouse and mother. She is survived by her husband Dan, her children Amanda, Cameron Delorey and his partner Alison. She is also survived by her brothers Michael, Randy and her sister Rose.  She also leaves many loving relatives from Dan’s family, as she has been long accepted as part of his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 26th, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at Beechwood Cemetery with internment on the following day for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers… those who wish to honour her memory can do so by making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Dan, so sorry to hear about Wendy's passing. I only met her briefly on a few occasions but you two seemed happy and well matched. Always at a loss for something more profound to say at a time like this but I wanted to you know that I was saddened by your loss and that I'm thinking about you. My deepest sympathies.

Dear Dan & Family
We were so fortunate to meet you and Wendy while escaping Mexico together with the onset of the Pandemic in 2020. Grateful we had the opportunity to meet up with you both again this winter in Progreso and Merida. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family!

My dear sweet cousin Wendy. I’m so sorry to hear the passing of such a wonderful loving and good spirited person, growing up with her and other cousins on Cliffside Dr. in Scarboro Ont. Back in the 70’s where there wasn’t much technology and cells, we made our own fun. I remember we made a monster mash Halloween video with my Super8 camera and her dancing, we had a contest to see who mouth was the biggest (I don’t know why? Haha) by seeing how many full walnuts including shell we could put in our mouths. Yep Wendy won and I have video to prove it , if I can dig it up. I think she managed to put 5-6 whole walnuts in her mouth. And back in 1994 when my daughter (Marteen) wasn’t yet born. Wendy, Dan and Amanda welcome us to their warm and friendly home in Saskatchewan, It brings a tear to my eyes thinking of the loving times we had together. Dan, Amanda, Cameron, Rose, Randy and Michael and extended family. I’m really sorry for your lost. She is the sweetest lady I have ever met and I will miss her too.

I’m sorry but I won’t be able to attend the reception as i’ll be travelling abroad. My deepest condolences to all that know and love her, love Richard Cleary xo

Dear Dan, Cameron and Amanda,
Words cannot express how much my heart breaks for all of you and for Wendy. Wendy was a kind and thoughtful person, a great mom to Amanda and Cameron and a wonderful wife and partner to Dan. Wendy, Dan and myself spent several amazing summers sailing Lake Ontario together which I will never forget. Wendy was such a great sport, putting up with us on the boat and enjoying herself in spite of waves and wind. I will always remember the way she would settle into the stern seat of the boat, right beside Dan, whenever he was steering. Wendy, we all miss you.
