Passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 91, at The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Bettie) Grant. Much loved father of Kathie (Greg Brost) and the late Aileen (Rob Justice). Dearly loved grandpa and grandad of Michael and Jason Brost and Mariel and Liam Justice. Son of the late Angus Grant and the late Aileen McDermott of Ottawa. Predeceased by brother Robert Grant. Fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Gordon was a member of the 3rd Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers in Ottawa from 1949 -1952. He then served in the RCAF from 1952 to 1957 as a munitions and weapons technician.  He enjoyed being posted to Germany for two years, travelling around Europe, the UK and Morocco.  He was then posted to Whitehorse.  Gordon joined the RCMP in 1957, retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 1985.  He met Bettie, the love of his life, while posted to Gander NL.  He was posted back to his home town of Ottawa in 1966.  Upon retirement, he joined his daughter Kathie at the Bank of Canada for five years, where he worked in the security services dept.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Civic Hospital who were very caring and made Gordon's stay there as comfortable as possible. They would also like to thank the nurses from CBI Health who came to the house. Special thanks to Dr Wijay and Nurse Practitioner Stacey Milo.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 12 noon until the time of Service in Beechwood's Sacred Space at 1 p.m. Interment to follow in the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery, located at Beechwood Cemetery.  Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Dear Kathie, Greg, Michael, Jason, Rob, Liam and Mariel,
Our deepest condolences to you all with the death of “papa G” as I always called him! He was always there and interested in how everyone was doing. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened. I have so many wonderful memories that have been coming back to me since I heard about his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time! Love to you all! Cathy, Brent, Katelyn, Miriam, Lydia, and Maisie the black lab. ?

Mr. G was like a second father to me. He was a remarkable person. He was “that” father you could go to in your youth when you weren’t sure who you could to go to! His sense of humour is what I will always remember most. He will be missed. What a large life!

That photo of Mr. Grant brings back so many happy memories of sleepovers at the Grant home with my Bestie, Kathie. He was always very nice to me and I was so intimidated by his stature, such a tall and gentle man…. My sincere condolences Kathie.❤️

Dear Kathie and family,
I’m so sorry to learn of your father’s passing. My sincere sympathies to you. My parents also send their thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Your father led a remarkable life. He was kind and gentle and had a wonderful sense of humour. My favorite memory of him is the time he drove us downtown at Christmas time. We were children and very excited to see a ballet at the NAC followed by a walk on Sparks St Mall. On the way home, late in the evening, the weather changed into a major snow storm. Your father was calm and carefully stick handled the car in very difficult driving conditions. At one point, the car got stuck in the snow on Tenth Line Road. Your father stepped out to get help at a nearby house. In the meantime, your mother kept us calm. I remember us all going into that little house and enjoying hot chocolate with very nice people. All ended well thanks to the wonderful Grants and the kindness of strangers. Your father was a man of courage and had an endearing personality. He left his mark in our hearts and won’t be forgotten. May he Rest In Peace.
