It is with the heaviest of hearts and deep sorrow we share that our beloved Kenny (Ken) passed away on Monday, February 20th, 2023 at the age of 52. He will be deeply missed by his loving life partner and best friend Cathy Cockburn and her sons: Matthew and Joshua, and daughters-in-law: Shelley and Julie who admired him dearly. He was the proudest grampa to his much-cherished grandchildren: Charlee, Daxeena, Jack and Nash. They gave him an extra sparkle in his eyes.

Kenny was the youngest son of the late Wayne Brophy and is survived by his mom Gail Russell (Don). He was the baby of the family and will be lovingly missed by his much-loved brothers and sisters, along with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kevin (Marie), Kimberly (John), Keith (Mary-Jane), and Kelly (Barry).

He will be fondly remembered and loved by his many adored nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Ken was an avid sports fan, whether he was watching it, studying it or playing it, he absolutely enjoyed it. He had a love hate relationship with his favorite teams – the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees.  He worshiped his idols Stevie Yzerman and Walter Payton to name a few. When it came to playing sports, he was a “Natural”.  Any sport he played he dominated.  Whether it was ball hockey, baseball, tackle football or touch football Ken was outstanding.  But beyond all the statistics and numerous awards, what meant most to him was the relationships he made along the way.  He forged many long-lasting friendships including his brotherhood with the Ottawa Seminoles.  He loved that team and they loved and will continue to love and miss him.

Kenny loved hard. If you were lucky enough to be in his circle of family and friends, you got every part of him. His love, his warmth, his caring nurturing-nature, his kindness, his generosity, his confidence, his humour, his wonderful laughter, his big squishy hugs, and his life-long trust.

It is our hope his sweet boy Tyson was waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge to smother him with wet kisses and tail wags!

He will be profoundly missed and will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

As per Ken’s wishes, a private family interment will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on June 9th.  A Celebration of Life will be held for him at the Barrhaven Legion (3500 Fallowfield Road, Nepean), on Saturday, June 10th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All are welcome.

You will be missed my friend. I will cherish all the great memories of our times together. My sincere condolences to Cathy and the Brophy family. I will have a big bowl of cereal with way too much milk and pour what’s left in the bowl down the drain in your memory. As one of my truly best friends you will always hold a special place in my heart.
