It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jean Joiner at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa, on January 9, 2023 , in her 99th year, born February 15, 1924 in Temiscaming, Quebec. Beloved wife of the late David William Joiner for 64 years. Cherished mother of Janice, David (Carol Ann) and Sandra (Rick). Much loved Nanny of Cara (Connor), Katie (Henk), Erin (Jeremy), Lena, Kaitlyn (Brandon) and Hannah and Great-Nanny to Ivy, Zaiden and Hadley. She leaves behind her dear brother Rene Cayen. Predeceased by her parents Eva Brazeau and William Cayen, her brothers Gerry (Gisele), John (Sarah) and her sisters Eva (Edmund Chaput), Sister Alice (Sisters of Charity) and Terry (Lionel Presseault). Jean will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Jean was a WWII veteran and served with the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service from 1944 to 1946. Jean was blessed to marry the love of her life and they were able to travel extensively throughout their lives with their best friends Betty and Bert Joiner. She also enjoyed reading, bingo, tennis, curling and bridge but Jean’s greatest joy was being with her family which included glorious summers spent at the family cottage at Otter Lake, Quebec. Jean’s faith was a very important part of her life, she was an active member of St. Augustine’s Parish since 1956.

Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 18th at 10:00 until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at St. Augustine's Church, 1060 Baseline Road, Ottawa. Interment to take place at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice.

Sandra and family you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was always welcoming when her house was being invaded by giggly, teenage girls. What a long and lovely life she had.

I am so sorry for your loss Janice and the family. But she had a wonderful life. She was a person you really miss.I saw her often in St Augustine Parish, with David, with whom I worked together on the windows at St Augustine. I will miss them both. RIP Jean. Celebrate her life.
