We regret to inform you of the passing of Marc Gratton. Marc died suddenly on November 13. He is survived by his wife; Louise Fortin, his children; Ariane, Vincent and Cassandre, and also his sister Lucie Chartrand, her husband Maurice as well as her nephew Michel Chartrand and his partner Nathalie. He was predeceased by his parents Henri and Marie Ange Gratton (Bourbonnais).

It was important for Marc to have a family, and to create an environment in which all can flourish and grow. Marc was very proud of his children, Ariane, Vincent and Cassandre. It was important for him to provide for his family and to ensure their well-being. He was devoted to his family and in particular to his wife Louise. He was generous with his time and his talents. He often went towards people to offer help when he saw a need.

He wanted to get more involved in the community life of the city of Denholm where he spent many lovely days at the cottage. He was an active City Councillor in Denholm where he worked to improve services to the public. He devoted himself to his career as a Pharmacist, and he gave back to the pharmaceutical community by participating in different committees and boards.

He had dreams of owning land in the country and creating an oasis for himself and his family. These dreams were realized when he purchased a cottage in Denholm. He spent as much time as he could walking in the woods or just dreaming by the lake.

Marc loved making new acquaintances and enjoyed hearing people talk about their life experiences. He especially liked talking with people from other cultures and other countries.

Though he was of a more intellectual and scientific turn of mind, he greatly enjoyed working with his hands. He maintained all his properties himself and enjoyed the challenge of repairs and renovation. It must be said though that he was not fond of plumbing as he was not very gifted in that particular area.

His personal interests and hobbies included philately, history, science, astronomy and politics. He enjoyed planning trips for his family making sure that everyone had activities that they would enjoy. For himself, he always planned visits at historical museums as he was an avid follower of international politics His quick wit and his knowledge will be remembered by those who had a chance to discuss current events with him.

A lifelong music lover, some of his favourite artists included David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and the Police. One could often hear him blowing out the speakers of his car. When he was listening to Donna Summers, you could hear him coming down from a block away!

Gone too soon, we will miss Marc every day and remember him always. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). The family asks that any donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Centre or the Distress Centre.

I was so saddened and devastated to hear this terrible news. My deepest condolences to Louise and his children. Marc was always singing along to his favourite songs in the pharmacy, bringing up everyone’s spirits when the days were long and tiring. He was the most positive, relaxed, and fun-going person to work with. I can’t imagine how deep your pain is. Please know that he was loved by all of his coworkers at Chesterville Pharmacy. Rest in peace. ?
