It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Williams, peacefully on November 5, 2022 at 100 years of age.
Born in Stourbridge, England she was a war bride, that very special kind of brave woman who took a leap of faith when she married a serviceman from another country during World War II. She met Reg Williams, an RCAF navigator, at a dance at the Town Hall in Stourbridge and they were married 15 months later – a very long courtship during wartime. In April 1946 she sailed on the “Aquitania” to join him in Canada. Numerous postings later they settled in Ottawa to raise their two daughters. At age 50 she reinvented herself – getting a job at the local library and relearning to drive. She was a wonderful handcrafter - sewing, knitting, needlepoint and cross-stitch – and an avid reader.
Predeceased by Reg, her husband of 52 years. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters Deborah (Jack) and Elaine (Lex), grandchildren Ian (Sarah), Lindsay, Alexis (David) and Nicholas, and great-grandchildren Willem, Aiden and Marina, as well as family and her many friends at the Rockcliffe Retirement Residence, especially Joan Ebsberry.
Special thanks to Dr. Wendy Pullan, Dr. Renata Saboya, and the nurses, PSWs and staff at the Rockcliffe Retirement Residence.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, at noon. A Funeral Service will begin at 1pm followed by interment in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
