Captain (N) James Terrance Oliver (Terry) Jones

Marni, there just are not enough words to express the sadness that I feel about Terry's passing. He really was a great guy and his stories were amazing. I'm just sad he never got to join us for dinner at our place. But we will have one soon in his honour.

Sorry to hear of Terry's passing. We were in #2 squadron at RMC and then went our separate ways during our military careers. We reconnected in Ottawa in retirement and enjoyed his company at class reunions, dinners and ex cadet functions. He was a true gentleman whose sense of humour and interest in others will be sorely missed.

We met Terry and Diane during our appointments to the embassy in Ankara, he as the resident DA and I as the trade commissioner. Even though I had been in the Navy, our paths had never crossed. He was a great shipmate and full of fun. Condolences to you, Diane, and the family. David and Jacquie

Deep condolences to Marni, Jennifer, and their family from Jody and myself. Terry was my senior at RR and very much one of the good guys and so well respected by his classmates and juniors. Throughout his career as a naval officer and submariner, he was a consummate professional and appreciated ship/boatmate. Not surprising, Terry was very highly regarded in our Navy, allied navies and in key diplomatic appointments abroad. He will always be remembered for his competence, humor, and people skills. His laugh was infectious.

A fine officer and gentleman with a wicked sense of humour. Terry and I represented MARCOM at the Roosevelt Roads weapons range HQ during CARIBOPS in the late 1970s and shared a cabin in the BOQ. Years later, when visiting MARPAC HQ, Terry dropped by my office to say hello. My secretary jumped up to introduce me to ‘Capt. Jones’ . With a perfectly straight face Terry announced “oh, Mitchell and I know each other; we slept together in Puerto Rico”! There was a deafening silence while my horrified secretary was left speechless with a very stunned look on her face. It took a while to explain. Happy memories. RIP Terry.

We are so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. He was a great man, with dignity and dedication, a great sense of humour, and it was always extremely interesting to have conversations with Terry. A great family man; he loved his family dearly. Our deepest condolences.

Captain Terry Jones was the Commanding Officer of HMCS Terra Nova from 1984 to 1986, when I was a Junior Mars Officer. He was the finest captain I ever served under. Modest, compassionate, and highly skilled, he exemplified the best qualities of a Naval Officer. I will remember him with great respect and admiration.

Our deepest sympathy to Terry's family on this sad day. He was a remarkable man and served his country in so many ways. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

I did not know Captain Jones but I knew of him through his brother Jeff. Jeff and the gang from the neighbourhood in Markham, were friends in school. I have 2 sons serving so I would like say; Thank you for your service, Captain, fair seas, and rest in peace.

Very sorry to learn of your passing Terry, a fellow former submariner. Your profound wisdom and insights will be missed.
