Dr. Arnold (Arnie) Newton died suddenly at home on September 19, 2022 leaving behind his wife of 50 years, Marie Newton (Anderson). Arnie was the proud father of Dr. Jennifer Charbonneau (Stephane), Dr. Allison Newton-Moore (Janine), Mark Newton (Ali), and Adam Newton (Lindsay). Loving grandfather to Matthew, Madeleine, and Luc Charbonneau; Caleb and Lachlan Moore; Georgia and Beckett Newton; and Gwen and Lucy Newton.
Arnie is survived by his brother Lionel Newton (Petra), and sister Rochelle Dennis (Paul). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and large extended family.
Arnie graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1973 as a Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He practiced for 30 years at York County Hospital (now The Southlake Medical Centre) and then moved to Ottawa where he continued to practice medicine right to the end.
Arnie was proud of his family and passionate about medicine. He loved chatting with patients and friends, telling a good story or joke, and adored his dogs. His jovial nature and playful sense of humour will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:30am, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southlake Medical Centre and The Ottawa Heart Institute.

Marie and family, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all, and I have known Arnie since Med School at Western. He was so supportive of all his colleagues at Southlake, and well respected for his hard work and dedication. Becca and Brooke send their love too.
My heartfelt sympathies to my late colleague who was legendary in his commitment to patients. Known to run an office to midnight after coming in to do an emergency Cesarean section, Arnie was a hard worker and loved by his patients. We have missed him since he left Southlake in 2008. I am not sure how many babies he delivered. Well over 0,000 I imagine. My thoughts are with Marie and his family.
So sad to hear of Arnie’s passing.
Gentle man, great surgeon. Passionate about his patients. Delivered my oldest child.
My condolences to his family
Erica and Ron Mantay
We will always remember Arnie’s joy of life and laughter. We enjoyed hearing his proud stories of the growing family. He was appreciated and respected by his colleagues and was missed when he left for Ottawa. We wish you comfort in many happy memories.

Dear Marie,Allison, Jennifer, and Adam. My wife Wanda and myself are saddened to hear about your loss. When we first arrived in Newmarket in 1989 Arnie took me under his wing. Marie , you and Arnie invited us to your home and in fact took us out to dinner when Wanda’s aunt passed away. I spent hundreds of hours assisting Arne in operations over the following 12 years(day and night). Arnie was an excellent physician and a dear friend. He was full of life and always spoke highly of all of his children. He was a real gentleman and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you!!!
Dear Marie and all the family,
What a shock Arnie’s death must be for you all! He was so proud of his family and so dedicated to his profession. As a patient many years ago I always felt that he was there for me. As a friend of the family he was always good company.
I will be thinking of you.
Be in peace Arnie.
