It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Henriksen (nee  Bramley) in Ottawa on Tuesday,  August 2nd, 2022.  She was a devoted wife to Melvin for 51 years.  Upon her arrival to Ottawa in 2003 Susan went to work for the government as a civil servant with DEMEUS.  She retired on June 1st, 2016.  Susan will be fondly remembered by anyone who knew her as she was a very wonderful and caring person.  This was very evident as she donated her blood over 100 times and she donated her organs, the gift of life, as her last wish.  Susan was an avid animal lover and she loved to travel.  She was truly an amazing person.  Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services from 11-1pm followed by the funeral service.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Ottawa Humane Society.

Dear Mel,
Words seem so inadequate at a time like this but know our hearts and thoughts are with you. Susan will be greatly missed, but Mel, if there is any comfort here it's knowing Susan was gone in a heartbeat with no suffering. It's all of us left behind mourning our loss of such a wonderful, loving and caring soul. We are all suffering broken hearts right now, but what a gift of life she gave to others. That's priceless!
Susan may be gone from this world but she will live on in our hearts and thoughts forever!
Until we meet again Susan!

I am deeply saddened to know my sister has passed away unexpectedly. Susan & I shared many happy sibling experiences & adventures growing up on our family farm at Carbon AB, with relatives living close by. As young adults, our lives took different paths with Susan being away from her family. She always stayed “in touch” with phone calls, birthday wishes & holiday greetings. She was a caring aunt to my children. With short notice, Susan & Mel came for extensive stays in Alberta when our parents needed them the most. I will miss Susan greatly, and Mel, my heartfelt condolences to you.
Sincerely, Carol Verquin

Uncle Mel, I am so sorry for your loss. Auntie Susan was a beautiful person, inside and out. She was always kind and thoughtful to me growing up. I enjoyed getting her cards in the mail; she never missed a birthday! She touched so many people with her caring spirit and we will miss her dearly. I hope you can look back fondly at all the adventures you two shared together.

Love, Karin, Jason and Luke

Susan was a very kind and caring person.
I will always cherish the fun we had as kids and the travel adventures that I had with Mel and Susan in Germany.

I spend many years in the same class as Susan at school. I remember her as being very studious and quiet. I envied both those traits. I don't know her husband but our sincere condolences. Gordon and Marvel Nash

Sad to have received the news that Susan had passed. She was the first person to teach me about gardening and she encouraged me to become a blood donor back in the early 80's which I still actively do today. She was indeed a very thoughtful, gentle and kind. I am deeply saddened for your loss Henry. You are in my thoughts.
