It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lucile Krusenstjern (née St. Arnaud) on May 18th, 2022 at the venerable age of 93, following a prolonged stay at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa.

Lucile was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan in 1928 and following her 12th grade graduation, circa 1945, she chose Education as a profession wanting to teach children in the ‘little schools on the prairies’.  She taught school in the 1940’s for 4 years and also offered piano lessons to her students after she had received her ATCM degree in musique.

In the early 1950’s she left Saskatchewan to make her way to the ‘big city of Montreal’ where she eventually met and married her beloved Axel who predeceased her in 2011 after 50 happy years of marriage.

Lucile was predeceased by her parents Liliane and Elphège St. Arnaud, her brother Louis and sisters Stella and Denise. She leaves to mourn her brother Gerald St. Arnaud and her sister Lorraine Archambault (née St. Arnaud) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins all across Canada and to whom she now bequeaths numerous happy memories about her very diversified life including lively memories of her many activities such as skiing, swimming, exercising, exotic travels, bridge playing with friends and her passion for teaching. Lucille switched careers to work both at Air Canada and Air France airlines for a number of years and then returned to teaching in a French Immersion School when she and Axel moved to Ottawa where she retired in the 1990’s.

Lucile had a brilliant mind, a happy and somewhat serious-sided personality that loved to spark various discussions with all of us regarding many world topics such as current affairs, foreign affairs, politics vocalizing and defending her opinions with a lot of brio and vigor.  We were always amazed by her width of knowledge about such things.  But the deepest and most profound memory we will keep in our minds and hearts forever is when she sat at the piano, her hands flying across the keyboard with such feeling, such dexterity, such assurance and as she played magnificent pieces of all kinds filled with emotion and glowing nuances even still at the age of 93!

The family would like to thank the staff on the 6th floor of the Montfort Hospital for the special care given to Lucile during her stay.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Lung Association.

We will dearly miss you Lucile but we know that the next time we see you, you will be sitting at a Grand Piano as accompanist to the Choir of Angels in Heaven.

Lucille was our friend and neighbour for as many years as we have lived at The Highlands. We enjoyed engaging her in conversation at the pool, and at any time that we would meet up. She was outgoing, and always had a smile. A group at The Highlands would have a pool party in March, to celebrate with the residents who went to the pool every day, and of course Lucille was included. She loved her swim and exercise in the pool and we will all miss seeing her there. To her family we offer our condolences.

We have known Lucille for most of the 14 yrs. we have lived at the Highlands. We first met her at the pool one summer and from then on developed a special bond. We already miss her daily presence in the pool and at family and friends' gatherings, and we think of her fondly. Nous gardons de Lucille un excellent souvenir. Sa personnalité si attachante nous a conquis dès le début. Nos sincères condoléances à sa famille.
