It is with profound sadness that the family of RCMP Superintendent (ret'd) Douglas "Doug" Gordon Simpson announce his passing on May 11, 2022, at the age of 83 years.

Lovingly remembered and missed by his wife and partner of 60 years, Lorna (Ormerod). Very much loved and proud father and grandfather of his children and grandchildren: Scott (Cindy) and Lori (Geoff); and granddaughters, Emma, Jillian, and Justine.

Doug is predeceased by his parents Everard and Ivy Simpson as well as his sister Janet Downer of Hamilton, Ontario.

Doug joined the RCMP at the age of 18 and served for 42 years living in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and British Columbia before coming to Ottawa in 1980. Doug threw himself into every activity he took on, Scouting (jamborees), marathon walking (dozens of races), marshalling at the Royal Ottawa Golf Course and especially his church. While Doug had many passions, none were more important to him than his commitment to his wife, children, granddaughters, and his four-legged friend Sidney.

Doug’s life and his presence touched many lives. He was a wonderful man full of kindness and generosity to all who knew him. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank the supportive health team at the Queensway Carleton hospital for all their kindness during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church on Monday May 30, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. 2400 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON.

In memory of Doug and in lieu of flowers, donations to one of Doug’s favourite charities, the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

I was saddened to see Doug’s obituary today as I knew him in the 80’s and respected and admired him greatly. I was going thru a rough time in my position and he and Insp. T.R,. BENTHAM found a place for me in CPIC Services. A big man with a bigger heart, a great example of an officer and a gentleman. My sincere condolences to his family.

My condolences to Doug’s family. Doug was a wonderful and thoughtful man and I certainly appreciated his work ethic when working with him and his CPIC Services team prior to and during the CPIC renewal project. Doug was well known by the policing community and served them well. Rest In Peace Doug.

Dear Lorna, I am very sad to learn today that Doug died in May. Yesterday I tried calling and discovered your phone number was no longer current. I e-mailed Doug as he usually answered me. Not this time! “Just one of the girls” has left us! In my last conversation with
Doug we were joking around about his t-shirt. I am praying for all of you. Hopefully, through the power of zgod we can be in touch. Love you and sending out lots of hugs and prayers, LINDA ???❤️??
