We sadly announce the passing of George Kenneth Wright on May 2, 2022 at the age of 88. Born in Moncton NB, “Ken” had a well-traveled life, throughout his long career with the Royal Canadian Air Force and as a “snow bird” during his well-deserved retirement. He proudly served God, Queen and Country as a maritime air navigator for almost four decades, with postings to Manitoba, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Ontario, but his most favourite were three postings to Norfolk Virginia. In his retirement, he enjoyed more time on the beach in Destin Florida during the winter months, and spent his time playing golf and gardening during the warmer months in Canada.

Ken was a loving husband to Marie (nee McCaw) for more than 65 years, a supportive father to his son Jeff (Carol Wright) and his daughter Leesa (James Tanner), a cherished grandfather to Holly (Kevin Charlebois), Ashley (Travis LaBelle) and Kelly Tanner, and he had just become a great-grandfather to baby Oliver LaBelle. Ken was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbours, and he will be sorely missed.

We would like to thank Dr Skaff and the staff at the Chapel Hill Retirement Residence for their care and support. Family and friends are invited to join us at a celebration of life service and reception that will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on May 18 from 12 to 2pm. In honour of Ken, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County or a charity of your choice.

We also knew Ken in Greenwood. An outstanding officer and a role model to all he came in touch with him.

Marie and Family. So sorry to hear of your loss. I waited too long for Ken to be weakened to a point where I could beat him at golf. As you know Ken was the Navigation Leader when I got to 404 SQN in 1965 and in 1973 relieved him at the Maritime Warfare Centre with many interactions until his retirement. As the Secretary for an annual NATO Planning Group he was renowned for negotiating the consensus of the 14, often contentious, national positions. Marie and Ken were a great national and international team that set the standard for all who met them under any circumstances. BJ and I send our sincerest condolences.

My parents, Des and Louise Nugent, were great friends of Ken and Marie, and connected with them frequently as they visited me in Virginia Beach for many years. I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s sad to lose a generation of these exceptional Canadians.

Our deepest condolences to Marie, Leesa, Jeff and all the grandchildren. Ken was a gem of a man and a true gentleman. We will miss his great sense of humour and wise counsel.
