Orie passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa on January 11, 2022 at the age of 65. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Diane (nee MacNichol), his brother, Ziggie (Catherine Aglaure), sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.

Born in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Harry and Irene Malyniwsky.

His whole life was spent in Ottawa along with childhood adventures, with his older brother Ziggie and several friends, at the family cottage in Manotick. Orie was employed as a bartender at Capone’s restaurant for more than twenty years. During those many years customers shared their stories as Orie was the best listener. He will be remembered for his amazing sense of humour, his impressive wealth of trivia knowledge as well as his exceptional photographic memory. Orie will be greatly missed as he had a gift to love, uplift and appreciate all those that had the privilege to know him.

Orie’s favorite saying goes like this “That’s what I do I cook, I drink and I know things”

The celebration of life for Orie will be held at a later date in the spring or summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or a charity of your choice.

I had the pleasure of working with this kind soul for 14 years at Capone's. I hope you and H are reminiscing over a beverage. Your hugs were always welcomed.
My condolences to Diane and Ziggy

Orie was a big guy with a huge heart to match. He would always do whatever he could to help a friend in need. If the help required went beyond his skillset, he would typically say, "I know a guy" or "I know a guy, who knows a guy". With his remarkable memory and range of contacts , he usually did.
His ready smile and sense of humor would brighten up any room (or bar). His ability to smile and stay positive in the face of adversity was remarkable and over the last few years it was truly inspirational.
Orie will be deeply missed by many and for all of us who knew him well, we feel blessed to have had him in our lives and to have been able to call him, "friend"
Love Janet and Tom

Orest and I went to kindergarten together, and remained friends for 60 years. He was such a character. We will all miss him dearly. My thoughts go out to The entire family.

I was a childhood friend of Orie. We recently reconnected on Facebook and I regret not having the opportunity to do so in person. Heartfelt condolences to his family and may he rest peacefully.

Diane and family. We were blessed to have Orie as our awesome neighbour for over 37 years. His humour quick wit and smile will long be remembered. We always enjoyed our backyard or over the fence discussions while he was sometimes BBQing his mouth watering fares. He was always there to lend a hand or an ear along with his novel solutions to life’s mundane problems. RIP Orie.

Orie was a student of mine in the early 70s. I remember him as a warm, friendly and wonderful guy who shared the best of himself with his friends. Rest In Peace, Orie. This touched me.

i remember my Friend Orest as a soft spoken guy with his face buried in a book of some kind all the time. He was my best friend from Kindergarten on. I spent happy times at the family cottage and got into lot's of crazy trouble with him. I am saddened to hear to his passing. My warm thoughts to Zig and the rest of the family. Rest in Peace my friend.

Worked with Orie at Ralph’s/Fat Alberts on Brookfield Rd in the very early 80’s. Only fond memories. Everyone loved him. RIP.
