It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Brian Bell on January 12 2022, in the comfort of his own home, at the age of 69.

Brian is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Janet Bell. Loved brother of Mark (Gail) and Wayne. Cherished by Heather, nephews Austin and Justin (Allanah) and niece Ramanda.

Brian will be dearly missed by his close friends and colleagues from the Ottawa Police Services. Special thank you to Donna Lea Andrews for all the love and support she showed Brian on the journey we call life. Anyone who knew Brian knew his love for cars and sports, especially the Dolphins.

A thank you to all of "Brian's Girls" Carolyn, Khaty, Stephanie, Judith, Delephine, Queen and Bryana.

A special thank you to his first call of the day or good morning to the last call of the night, Krista who patiently stood with him through the tough times.

Donations in Brian's memory can be made to the Heart Institute

Treaty Three Police Service, Chief of Police Kai Liu

I am deeply saddened to learn about the sudden passing of retired Ottawa Police Sergeant Brian Bell. As a junior Ottawa police constable with three years experience under my belt in 1989, I was fortunate to be assigned a career opportunity to be partnered with Brian on Ottawa’s Emergency Response Unit (ERU).

Paired together on “Car 101E”, Brian was my partner, mentor, friend, and teacher.

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” – William Arthur Ward, writer.

Brian was a GREAT teacher!!! He has forever left his valued handprint on my life. He inspired and challenged me throughout our friendship to excel in my policing journey.

Brian’s legendary photographic memory was awe-inspiring and at times intimidating! He had the ability to readily recall from his mental ‘rolodex’ (‘database’ for you millennials) every individual we encountered, names, date of births, addresses and circumstance of the encounter.

Heidi and I extend our sincere condolences to Brian’s entire family.

As past and current Chief of Police for three Ontario police services, I am humbled to be a part of Sergeant Brian Bell’s policing legacy.

Thank you Brian, be at peace, goodbye my friend.

Our deepest sympathies Wayne and Mark. I will always vividly remember cousin Brian taking Mark and myself as kids in the 70's to see Jaws at a drive in theater in Ottawa and shortly after my first ever concert- Bay City Rollers! I was so proud to meet up with him again later after joining the OPP in the 80's. He and brother Wayne were with the Ottawa Police- they took me out to celebrate. Lots of special memories. Sending our love ❤ xoxo

I had the opportunity to work with Brian over the years with the Ottawa Police. He loved the job and assisted the younger less experienced officers around him. Brian had a terrific sense of humour and cherished the times he had as an officer. He will be dearly missed by those who had the opportunity to know him. RIP Brian.

Russel Shearer and Anna McCormick (and kids - Emily and Michael)

Very sad to hear of Brian's passing. Our deepest sympathies go to his immediate family - Wayne in particular, and to Donna Lea. Brian was a wonderful neighbour and friend and we shared many wonderful memories together. He was a big sports enthusiast which we shared (and made for a spicey relationship sometimes with Brian being the Dolphins biggest fan and me a huge Buffalo Bills fan). We came together on our support to the Ottawa Senators and attended many NFL and NHL games together. He was such a generous person and to our family and showed a lot of support to our kids Emily and Michael (who were part of his wedding party in his marriage to Donna Lea. We will miss his kind words and wonderful sense of humour and strong will - to do the right thing! Rest in peace Brian and know that you are loved!
