Born in Hornepayne Ontario, on November 29th 1933 the second youngest of four children born to Earl and Clara Adams, Maryian passed away peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay with her youngest son John holding her hand and her eldest son Michael who was near at hand on Thursday December 30th, 2021. She was 88.

Maryian spent her early years in Hornepayne, a railway town that is North of Lake Superior on the CN line for whom her father proudly worked. There this young family was actively engaged in small town life and were educated in a one-room schoolhouse. When she reached adolescence, she had the opportunity to continue her education at Branksome Hall in Toronto where she excelled.

Forever the seeker, she went on to work as a Personal Administrative Assistant at the advertising firm of Breithaupt-Milsom where she first met Patrick who would later become her husband.  But, she had things to do first!

Maryian accepted a position as an Au Pair for her eldest sister as they travelled through Europe with their young family. This would form a bond with Lois and Walter and their three daughters, Miriam, Ingrid and Rosalind that lasted a lifetime.  As that opportunity came ended, while still in Europe, she decided to explore the world of literary publishing that had opened its’ doors up to her. To Patrick’s dismay, she announced she had accepted an opportunity in London, England to work in the offices of the distinguished publishing industry as a Personal Assistant. She was there two years before conceding to Patrick Milsom’s persistent courtship and accepted his proposal for marriage, coming back to Canada for a union that lasted 36 years and connected two generations of family with Wendy, Peter and Jennifer and eight Grandchildren: (Peter Jr. Candace, Karin, Sarah, Heidi, Alex, Timothy & Jeremy) plus 9 great-grandchildren! (Mika, Carter and Marshall, Alex and Timothy and Kaelee, Linden, Elyas and Etiene).

Throughout her life, she possessed an unquenchable thirst to learn new things. While still being an attentive Mom and wife, she successfully earned her BA from York University, Glendale campus as a mature student. She went on to study, following a passion for alternate teaching methods, holistic nutrition, meditation and spirituality. She never quit reading or wanting to learn.

She hosted graciously and had a gift of making everyone feel welcome and included. Her friendships were genuine and most remarkably lasted for generations. A strong supporter of small business and her community.

The last 20 years of this remarkable life were in Lindsay, Ontario. A special town that made her feel welcome and included. A faithful band of friends that stayed together and supported one another staying strong through a global pandemic. Every member of that group was so dear to her and were as much a part of her life as was her own family.

Maryian leaves us to join her parents, her husband, her two brothers, Bob and Gary and her sister Lois. United once again. She leaves her two sons and her extended family all of who love her dearly.  She was truly a beautiful person, inside and out.

“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.  Psalm 23:6

Michael Milsom

The internment yesterday was truly special. Her body is resting alongside her Mother and two of her Aunts. A sincere and thoughtful ceremony that was made possible by the very thoughtful Beechwood staff.
