Passed away peacefully at the age of 61. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Isabel MacDonald as well as his dear sister, Margie MacDonald. He will be fondly remembered by many friends and family members, especially his niece who selflessly dedicated herself to his care.

Everyone who met Gary adored his company and always had something nice to say about him. When out in public, it was like walking with a celebrity. He was everyone's friend and always took the high road. Gary served as a PSW in the Ottawa area for many years. Through his work, he was able to bring joy and happiness to all he served.

He never was upset, and when asked "Why?, he would simply answer, "Because I don't have any expectations." This explained his constant sunny disposition.

We were so lucky to have had so many wonderful memories with him. Love you forever Gary! An inurnrnent has taken place at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.

Our sincere condolences to Joanne and Ken, and the whole MacDonald family. Gary was such a nice guy, although we didn't know him that well, whenever we met him at home home, there was always fun and laughter. He seemed to bring that with him, wherever he went. Our hearts are with you.

Memorial Poem for Gary
“My Forever Knight”
I love you my companion
and will till we meet again
but leaving without one last goodbye
left me in tears and a painful Amen.

But God gave us time for hugs and kisses
and time to share memories so sweet
jokes and routines we enjoyed performing
we’re done every time we’d meet.

You made me laugh to tears
your humor was dry and easy
when I begged for more, you’d simply say
“Not now, I’m feeling rather queasy.”

But sports was our real shared passion
we spent years playing football and hockey
as spectators we shared much together
we were the brothers Bullwinkle and Rocky.

Music was another mutual interest
enriching our together, comforting times
Manilow, Sinatra, Simon, and Chicago
we’re a few of our favourite rhymes.

I was so proud to show you off, Gary
you were liked by all whom you met
with your fun and friendly nature
you could be anyone’s favourite pet.

You faced life with nobility and courage
and wanted to live and be our best guy
but God rescued you from future suffering
making a brave knight your legacy on high

You took the express route to heaven
enjoying tea now with family and friends
but bro, look in every once in a while
I’ll be checking for a Cardinal among wrens.

Love you forever, Gary
I look forward to our “face to face” routine again.

Davey ❤️

"That's All Folks"
I'm sorry I checked out early
without one last warm embrace
but the Big Guy said it was time to go
no more trials would I have to face.

541 may have seemed a plain old room
but it was my forever special place
a product of love and kindness
and the power of God's sweet grace.

For a time I thought I joined the army
Up early and breakfast at eight
but the routine started to grow on me
with surprises on each dinner plate.

Your special KD dinners, Davey Boy
and Jo Jo your soup from home
kept me in touch with the other world
so there wasn't a reason to roam.

Carolyn, you said I'm your favourite
Uncle
well, as my niece, you're my favourite
too
your kind nature and loving
thoughtfulness
made my journey easier, till it was through

And those that entered my castle
to raise my spirits with fun and cheer
you have real estate in my heart
where you'll always be warm and near.

I beg you not to grieve long for me
make me happy and live your dream
you know some day we'll meet again
and resurrect our winning dream
team.

Oh yes, remember my 'no
expectations'?
well, I admit I actually had just one
I wish I had seen the whole family
before my Earthly days were done.

And I apologize my dear Davey
Boy
that time my longing made you cry
but I've learned to not figure out people
doing so says they're perfect, and
that's a lie.

Rib Joey for me just a little bit
tell him he's the best fisherman on this Earth
but my fisherman is the King of Kings
I get last point for what it's worth.

And Ken my favorite brother-in-law
you're a devoted hubby to my Sis
and Darren I got your back
if a limb you unfortunately miss,

Davey, some staff weren't your
favourites
though you always acted on my behalf
you forever were sticking up for me
but later on to myself I'd laugh

And what are the odds of meeting
Dale?
Davey's former colleague of many
years
duking it out together against an
enemy
helping each other overcome certain
fears.

With Darrell, I hope he sees the light
with so much life left to live
tell him Dad is standing near
he'll be okay when he learns to give.

Well, this is where I say "That's All, Folks!"
but you know that's another lie
there's a Mandarin even in Heaven
and masks here just don't fly!!

Love you all!! Ya crazy guys!!(Line"61")
Gary

“Christmas Embrace”

Christmas ‘21 we’ll remember
Our sweet celebration of love
though our baby brother’s not with us
he’s at peace in heaven above

Gary’s smile will lighten our nights
with beautiful music he loved to hear
Sweet Melodie’s that his heart knew well
we’ll cherish throughout the year.

As we warm ourselves by the fire
there will be laughter and good cheer
with Gary’s spirit in our hearts
his love and kindness is forever near

Togetherness and familiar love
and blessings for one another
is the happiness that we dearly seek
for Gary, there wasn’t any other
