It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry (Tan Main) Leo on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, peacefully at Perley Health, at the age of 90.
Born in Taishan, China, Henry immigrated to Canada in 1951, where he would later marry Mee Har Hum. In 1967, they opened and successfully operated New Town restaurant for 22 years until their retirement in 1989. During this time, they worked very long hours while raising a young family, son James and daughters Jean, Betty and Jackie.
After retiring, Henry was able to relax and enjoy hobbies that included gardening, bicycling, kite flying and watching his favourite sports. He especially enjoyed gardening, spending much time tending to his vegetable garden. He took great pride in all the melons, tomatoes and other vegetables he grew annually, which he often shared with friends, relatives and family.
During his final years at Perley Health, despite the pandemic and health issues, he maintained a positive and cheerful attitude. He connected well with the people he met. He liked to listen to music, but he particularly enjoyed the live music at the many concerts held for residents.
The family would like to thank the staff at Perley Health for their daily care, compassion and support, especially throughout the pandemic which was especially difficult for all residents and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Kong (father), Mee Nor Ng (mother) and his beloved wife, Mee Har Hum.
Henry will be remembered for his bright smile, sly sense of humour, generous and kind spirit. Nothing made him happier than seeing and being with his family.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family, relatives and dear friends and will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.
Visitation will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (main building) at 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, ON, on Wednesday, June 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27 in the Beechwood main building at 10:00 a.m., followed by a procession and interment at Beechwood Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
Friends are invited to join the family following interment for a 1:00 p.m. lunch at Jadeland Chinese Restaurant, 625 Somerset St. W, Ottawa, ON.
With appreciation from the family, flowers or a donation in memory of Henry to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dear James, Jean, Betty and Jackie,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your dear father.
I'll always remember the generosity of
your parents. They would often share homemade traditional food and garden harvest with my parents. They were good friends.
May happy memories sustain you throughout this difficult time.
