A Nation Remembered. A Nation United.
Each year on July 1, Canadians gather from coast to coast to coast to celebrate the country we proudly call home.
Canada Day is a time to reflect on our shared history, celebrate our diversity, and look with confidence toward the future. It is an opportunity to recognize not only what Canada has become, but also the generations of people whose service, sacrifice, innovation, and dedication helped build our nation.
As Canada’s National Cemetery, Beechwood occupies a unique place in that story.
Within our grounds rest Canadians from every province and territory, every cultural background, every faith, and every walk of life. Here lie members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans, parliamentarians, public servants, police officers, first responders, community leaders, artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, and families whose lives collectively tell the story of Canada.
Every monument, every headstone, and every memorial represents more than an individual life. Together, they form a living history of our country.
Canada’s story is one of courage and compassion. It is a story shaped by those who defended freedom, those who strengthened our democracy, those who welcomed newcomers, those who advanced reconciliation, and those who worked every day to build stronger communities for future generations.
At Beechwood, these stories are preserved and shared through remembrance ceremonies, educational programs, guided tours, historical research, and national commemorations. Every visit offers an opportunity to better understand the people and events that have shaped our country.
A cemetery is often thought of as a place to remember the past. At Beechwood, it is also a place to inspire the future.
Children visit to learn about Canadian history. Families gather to honour loved ones. Veterans reconnect with comrades. New Canadians discover the people and events that helped build the nation they now call home. Visitors from around the world come to better understand Canada’s values through the stories preserved here.
On this Canada Day, we invite Canadians to take a moment to reflect on what unites us.
Our shared commitment to service.
Our respect for one another.
Our appreciation for those who came before us.
And our responsibility to leave a stronger Canada for those who will follow.
As we celebrate our nation, we also remember those whose lives made Canada possible.
From everyone at Beechwood Cemetery, Canada’s National Cemetery, we wish you and your family a safe, meaningful, and happy Canada Day.
Together, we honour our past, celebrate our present, and help preserve Canada’s story for generations to come.
To Honour. To Remember. To Never Forget.
