Passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 97. Lois has now gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour, reunited with her beloved husband, Edouard Saumure.
Beloved mother of Sandra (Steve Whittle) and Wayne. Proud and cherished grandmother of Angela (Derek Horne), Mathew (Ann Koolsing), Heather (Jeff St. Aubin), Dana (Charlie Barkley), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including three great-great-grandchildren.
Dear sister of John McDougall (Kengsee). Lois will also be fondly remembered by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews of the Saumure and Mavis families.
Predeceased by her grandson, Jeffrey Saumure; her sister, Verna Trotter; and her beloved niece, June (Russ) Killoran.
Lois was a woman of deep and unwavering faith whose quiet strength, humility, and gentle spirit reflected God’s love in everything she did. She lived her life according to Christian values, serving others with compassion, grace, and an open heart. Never seeking recognition or praise, she faithfully cared for those around her, offering encouragement, kindness, and unconditional love to family, friends, and anyone in need.
She was the steadfast heart and backbone of her family—the gentle glue that held generations together through prayer, generosity, patience, and unwavering devotion. Her home was always a place of welcome, where no one was turned away and everyone was treated with dignity and love. The countless lives she touched stand as a testament to a life faithfully lived in service to God and others.
While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Her faith was her foundation throughout her life and remains her enduring legacy.
She will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to nurse Katie, Hilda, Sophia, Mado, Linda, Dr. O’Connor, bonus sons Jay and Didi, and all of the wonderful personal support workers, nurses, caregivers, friends, and others (you know who you are) whose compassionate care, kindness, and dedication made it possible for Lois to remain in the comfort of her own home throughout the final chapter of her remarkable journey.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’s memory may be made to Community Pentecostal Church, 1825 St. Joseph Boulevard, Orléans.
