Passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 97. Lois has now gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour, reunited with her beloved husband, Edouard Saumure.

Beloved mother of Sandra (Steve Whittle) and Wayne. Proud and cherished grandmother of Angela (Derek Horne), Mathew (Ann Koolsing), Heather (Jeff St. Aubin), Dana (Charlie Barkley), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including four great-great-grandchildren.

Dear sister of John McDougall (Kengsee). Lois will also be fondly remembered by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews of the Saumure and Mavis families.

Predeceased by her grandson, Jeffrey Saumure; her sister, Verna Trotter; and her beloved niece, June (Russ) Killoran.

Lois was a woman of deep and unwavering faith whose quiet strength, humility, and gentle spirit reflected God’s love in everything she did. She lived her life according to Christian values, serving others with compassion, grace, and an open heart. Never seeking recognition or praise, she faithfully cared for those around her, offering encouragement, kindness, and unconditional love to family, friends, and anyone in need.

She was the steadfast heart and backbone of her family—the gentle glue that held generations together through prayer, generosity, patience, and unwavering devotion. Her home was always a place of welcome, where no one was turned away and everyone was treated with dignity and love. The countless lives she touched stand as a testament to a life faithfully lived in service to God and others.

While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Her faith was her foundation throughout her life and remains her enduring legacy.

She will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to nurse Katie, Hilda, Sophia, Mado, Linda, Dr. O’Connor, bonus sons Jay and Didi, and all of the wonderful personal support workers, nurses, caregivers, friends, and others (you know who you are) whose compassionate care, kindness, and dedication made it possible for Lois to remain in the comfort of her own home throughout the final chapter of her remarkable journey.

Graveside service will take place on Friday July 31st at 1pm at the Beechwood Cemetery, followed by a small reception at Community Pentecostal Church, 1825 St. Joseph Boulevard, Orléans, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’s memory may be made to Community Pentecostal Church, 1825 St. Joseph Boulevard, Orléans.

  1. We miss you so much Nana Banana!
I’ll always remember the days coming home from school with a hot meal on the table ready for us.
Watching Golden girls while drinking red rose tea, when laying on the couch with my feet up she couldn’t resist grabbing my toes while saying ” this little piggy went to market”.
She was always the one who reminded me to brush and take care of my teeth, my dentist says I have a great set of teeth and I give her the credit for that!
She made the best food on earth! I loved helping her prepare meals, my favourites were her scalloped potatoes, pot roasts, stews and countless more dishes!
I have so many more memories to share but I just want to say she was the best woman I’ve never known and she shaped me to be the woman I am today. Without her; I don’t know where I’d be!
So thank you Nana. Love you to the moon and back.
    Xoxo your girl, Dana.

  2. I didn’t get the chance to know you for very long, but the time I did have with you is something I’ll always cherish.

Every time I saw you, you had the biggest smile on your face. One of my favourite memories will always be watching your face light up whenever you saw your great-great-grandchildren. The love and joy you had for them was so beautiful to witness. You were always laughing, joking, and so excited to see the babies. Those are the moments I’ll hold close to my heart.

Thank you for sharing your kindness, your warmth, and your love with everyone around you. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Forever loved and forever missed. Rest peacefully, Nana <3

  3. There are absolutely no words that could ever describe the void that I feel in my heart for Nanny. She was like a mother to me. I spent my entire life in hers and Pampa’s home. It was always so full of life and happiness. It’s where I felt safest and most comfortable. Nanny was my very best friend. She is the ONE person in this world who had unconditional patience for me, and that’s not an easy feat. Nanny was the kindest, most gentle soul that I have ever met. She didn’t say much but she always made me laugh when she said “Pow, in the kisser!”. I’m sure anyone reading this can look back and laugh, remembering how funny she was when she said that.
I’m sad that I will never hear her say that, I’m sad that I will never force her to play checkers again, I’m sad that I will never taste her spaghetti or apple pie again, and if she were here, she would be patting my leg and saying, “there, there”, like she always did. She wasn’t one who ever said I love you, but you knew without a doubt that she did. She would stick up for anyone she loved. She would take my side in shock and disbelief that I could ever be anything less than a perfect angel. Only now as a Nanny myself do I understand the love that you feel for a grandchild. I’m so grateful to have had her in life. When people say at least she had a long life, she certainly did. She was first generation of five. We never realize that our own parents are children too until you watch them mourn their own parents. I feel sad for myself, but most of all for my Mom and my Uncle Wayne. It’s a hurt that I couldn’t begin to imagine.
Nanny, you will always be alive in the stories that I tell people.
    55 kisses Nanny 💋 😢

  4. So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom ,Wayne. Love to you and your family xoxoxo
