Fay Ouimet, 89, passed away on September 14, 2026 after a short illness, surrounded by the love of her family.  Fay was predeceased by her husband Robert and granddaughter Laura.  She is survived by her children; Raymond (Lesley), Richard and Michel; her grandchildren Andrew (Christine), Matthew (Celine), Robert (Claire), Christian, Penelope and Amber; and her great-grandchildren Everly, Lola and Loic.

Fay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strength and love for her family was obvious.  She was born in Kfar Mechki, Lebanon in 1937, making her way to Ottawa as a young woman in 1954.  While working in a restaurant, she was swept off her feet by a young French Canadian school teacher, Robert Ouimet.  Together they built a life in the Ottawa area and raised three sons.  Fay supported the family passion for farming, spending many years surrounded by large tracts of land and a variety of farm animals.

As a widow, Fay left country life behind and returned to Orleans, where she enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren in their activities and working at a local jewelry store.  As those grandchildren grew up, most of them spent some time living with grandma.  They moved in with her for her company and the delicious Lebanese food she prepared.  No one left Fay’s table hungry.

Her final months were spent at Willowbend Retirement Home, where staff and personal support workers were exceptionally kind and caring.  She will be missed by family and friends.   Friends may call on Monday, September 28th at Beechwood Cemetery’s Reception Building from 4 to 8 pm.  A mass of Christian burial will be held at Divine Infant Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 29th at 11 am, followed by a reception in the parish hall.  A private interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery following the reception.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or Make-a-Wish Canada (who granted wishes to two of her grandchildren).

Digital Guestbook

  1. To Ray, Lesley, Andrew, Christine and Family. Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear Mother, Mother-in-law and Grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most very difficult time.

  2. I will always fondly remember Christmas at aunt Fay‘s and uncle Bob’s. The pleasant smoke of the fireplace that somehow always seemed to be going, the trips out to the stables to visit the horses, and countless hours playing pool with all of our cousins. Aunt Fay always had a good pool table to keep us entertained during our holiday visits. I also remember Tippi, the black lab, who might have been the first dog ever welcomed into the family. One of many but possibly the smartest of Ouimet farm pets.

Fay made seriously tasty kibbeh and tabouli. She might have been a bit heavy-handed with the salt, but maybe that’s what made it so good (though she and Situ would always argue over how much salt was enough)!

Most of all, I remember Fay best as she was in her vibrant middle years: warm, welcoming, quick to laugh, and always up for a bit of fun. She also held her dignity close, and I think that’s exactly how she would want us to remember her. To Fay’s immediate family, please accept our heartfelt condolences. She will be dearly missed.

  3. Dear Ray,

I am so deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Wishing you and your family comfort, peace, and strength in the days ahead. You are in my thoughts.

    Sincerely,
    Hye Kyung (Sabrina) Kim

  4. My deepest condolences to Raymond and Lesley, and to all of Fay’s family! She loved all of you so much, and she never tired of bragging about her family, those who are both near and far. And she constantly prayed for each one of you!
Fay was a dear friend and neighbour, and a heroic witness to me. Despite trials over the years, and my all-too-few visits, when I popped by to say hi, I always left feeling lighter and happier. Her joy was lively and contagious, as was her faith. There was no doubt that Fay loved Jesus, for she proclaimed it aloud, with unrivaled fervour and unapologetic zeal, and held fast to the hope of God’s promise of eternal life to all who love Him! She assisted at daily Mass (virtually on tv, yet fully present in her heart!) and although she longed to be “called home” to the arms of her heavenly Father, and to be united with her beloved family there, she loved those who were here, her beloved family, and she taught me patient endurance, as with a twinkle in her eye, she’d smile and say, “I don’t know why God hasn’t taken me yet, but I’m ready!” And as she waited for God to be ready to call her home, she told me she chose to live life fully, relying heavily on God’s grace, reminding and encouraging me that He is ever faithful, never abandons us if we cling to Him, and that Jesus His Son came that we may have LIFE, and have it abundantly! (John 10.10) (She really tried to impress this upon me during our last visit! God bless her for that!)
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she and all our faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
