Fay Ouimet, 89, passed away on September 14, 2026 after a short illness, surrounded by the love of her family. Fay was predeceased by her husband Robert and granddaughter Laura. She is survived by her children; Raymond (Lesley), Richard and Michel; her grandchildren Andrew (Christine), Matthew (Celine), Robert (Claire), Christian, Penelope and Amber; and her great-grandchildren Everly, Lola and Loic.
Fay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strength and love for her family was obvious. She was born in Kfar Mechki, Lebanon in 1937, making her way to Ottawa as a young woman in 1954. While working in a restaurant, she was swept off her feet by a young French Canadian school teacher, Robert Ouimet. Together they built a life in the Ottawa area and raised three sons. Fay supported the family passion for farming, spending many years surrounded by large tracts of land and a variety of farm animals.
As a widow, Fay left country life behind and returned to Orleans, where she enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren in their activities and working at a local jewelry store. As those grandchildren grew up, most of them spent some time living with grandma. They moved in with her for her company and the delicious Lebanese food she prepared. No one left Fay’s table hungry.
Her final months were spent at Willowbend Retirement Home, where staff and personal support workers were exceptionally kind and caring. She will be missed by family and friends. Friends may call on Monday, September 28th at Beechwood Cemetery’s Reception Building from 4 to 8 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Divine Infant Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 29th at 11 am, followed by a reception in the parish hall. A private interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery following the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or Make-a-Wish Canada (who granted wishes to two of her grandchildren).
