GAGNÉ, Pierre “Pete” Alfred Joseph passed away peacefully at Alta Vista Manor on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the age of 85. Pierre will be missed by his wife of 57 years Nancy (née Nugent) and daughter Marie-Claire Shanahan (Mike). He is also survived by brother-in-law Dale Nugent (Jeanne) and sister-in-law Lucette Gagné. He was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Evelyn and his brother Paul.

Pete was born on August 22, 1939 in Ottawa to Dr. Roland Gagné and Vivian Leveille. He loved the outdoors and spent his happiest times skiing, hunting and fishing. After spending his youth in Ottawa, he moved with Nancy first to Arnprior and then to Burnstown. There he learned the art of making maple syrup, staying up many nights to tend to the sap boiling over an open fire. He was an enthusiast of French cars, owning and showing his prized cherry red 1977 Citroën 2CV Special for many years. He was outgoing and friendly, always ready with a laugh or a joke for anyone he met. He will be missed by the residents of 200 Rideau St. in Ottawa where he was a long-serving board member and worked to build community by greeting everyone in the lobby each day.

Family and friends will be welcomed to a Graveside Service held at Beechwood Funeral Home, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa on Saturday April 5, 2025, at 2:30pm, with reception to follow.

Farewell Peter!

Had the opportunity to work with Peter as property manager for just over 8 years.

Always there to offer an opinion, cared very much for the residents, staff and building at 200 Rideau St.

Rest in peace Peter

Uncle Pete feels so vibrant. Funny, strong, hospitable. He was able to solve so many different kinds of problems. That song, "wasn't that a party" comes to mind. His birthdays were epic. And that red Citroyen! And he had a quad or riding lawn mower that also seemed so awesome. He was going get things done. He was rugged outdoorsy, and at the same time well spoken, socially-connected, and had such a beautiful, artistic, home-space. He was fun and funny. It will be good to be with others who also have a Peter-shaped hole in their hearts.
