Anthony (Tony) Challinor was born on the 29th of May 1934 in Burlsem England to Harry and Flora Susan (nee Jukes) Challinor. He passed away peacefully on the 17th of January 2025 at the Ottawa Hospital following a brief illness.

Tony was the loving and devoted husband of over 67 years to Marion (nee Hushard) Challinor, cherished father and role model to their son Stephen Challinor and father in-law to the late Carla Sovran.  His grandson’s; Mark Challinor (Caitlin Macdonald) and Ryan Challinor (Brianna Spulnick) were his pride and joy and he was a central figure throughout their lives.  He also delighted in his great grandchildren; Keeler, Brynn, Hudson, Ollie, Callum and Donovan.

Tony enjoyed life to the fullest and had a deep sense of caring and commitment to friends and family. He was always quick to smile, share his positive attitude and he was a true gentleman and mentor.  Always generous with his time, he loved to lend a hand to help others.  Tony was also a tireless caregiver to his beloved Marion following her diagnosis of Alzheimers disease in 2014 until his death.

Tony carried his love of sports and the outdoors throughout his life and was happiest sailing with a steady breeze, cycling quiet backroads or undertaking new travel adventures in the company of friends and family.

Tony’s career spanned 43 years. He served proudly and with distinction in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy (Naval Air Group) and then as a federal public servant with Supply and Services Canada.

The family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff of the Ottawa Hospital and all the supportive and compassionate people who helped the family and afforded Tony such dignity and respect in his last days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 1st, 2025 at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, in Ottawa.

The family will receive condolences In Memory of Anthony and donations in leu of flowers to the Alzheimer Society of Canada at Alzheimer.ca

Tony was a truly accomplished person. I was in awe of him. He could turn his hand to anything; and, he would happily assist friends and neighbours alike. So devoted to his family; so professional in his work; and, always ready with encouragement and a smile. Those of us who knew him were lucky. Sincere condolences to Marion, Stephen and his family.
