Ian died peacefully in hospital after a brief illness. Survived by his loved wife of 64 years, Jo (Turner), and by his sons, Mark (Lisa), Steve (Robyn) and Peter (Barb) Hamilton, as well as grandchildren Stuart (Kiki), Charles (Steph), Spencer (Tracy), Grace (Tom), Neil (Claire), Harry (Christine) and Cleo Hamilton, and great-grandkids Henry, Isabelle, Emma, Frankie, Piper, Clara, Skylar and Jack, all of whom he dearly loved. He will be missed by all.
Predeceased by his mother, Jean Hamilton (McDonald), his father John, and the McDonald family, Don, Charlie, Vic, Heather and Barry, who helped to raise him.
Ian was an electrician. He learned the trade in the family business, AC McDonald and Sons Electrical Contractor, then moved on to various contractors, and finished up his career at NRC for over 20 years.
He loved the outdoors, and travelling. Travelled across Canada, to the US and to the other side of the world, Australia, many times. Also, camping, hiking, sitting around a campfire, for many years, in Algonquin Park, at Rock Lake, all with so many good friends, often with lifelong friends, Laura and Jack Ledger enjoying nature, and great company.
Special thanks to each of the incredible staff at the Ottawa Hospital (General), as well as those at Bruyère Palliative Care, who looked after Ian and the family during the two weeks Ian was in hospital.
An informal celebration of Ian’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 11 to 3 pm with words of remembrance being shared from 11:30 to 12:30, followed by a reception. For those unable to attend in person, we invite you to attend via Live-stream.
