Marilyn passed peacefully at Saint Vincent Hospital on November 15, 2024. She was comforted by family and friends.

Marilyn was born in Ottawa and lived and worked there for many years before moving to California.  She lived in La Jolla and loved her time there.  She returned to Ottawa and worked for Carleton University before retiring.

Marilyn had an incredible sense of humour. You could count on her to make you laugh at some crazy story of something that happened to her. There was no end of them. And there is no end to the number of wonderful friends she had. Too many to list here but you are all remembered and loved.  It is a true testament to what a good friend she was. Her recent 86th birthday was celebrated with so many cards and warm wishes. She will be truly missed.

Marilyn loved the Kennedys, figure skating, cats and cheeseburgers.

Marilyn was a caring stepmother to Danielle Smith (Joey) and Pierre Levesque (Madeleine), and beloved Nanny to Shawn (Jen), Jessica, Ashley (Mark), Matthew (Amanda) and Tyler (Tasha). She had many great grandchildren and was crazy about them all.

She was a very special person to her cousin, Paula Melville, and her spouse Jim McKendry who were there for her in the last difficult months. She was also cared for deeply by her cousins, Robert, John (Joni) and Peter (Jennifer).

We would like to thank the staff at Saint Vincent Hospital for their care and support. They are amazing people.

At Marilyn’s request, there will not be a formal funeral service. She will be laid to rest in Beechwood Cemetery with family.

We will miss you Marilyn. You were a great friend to Wayne and I and our children. The last few months were difficult but you were a trouper. Right to the end you were cheerful, laughed easily and had a great sense of humour. Rest in peace old friend.

My condolences to all of Marilyn’s family members, and many friends. I never had the privilege of meeting her, but heard wonderful things from Paula and Jim (my sis-in-law, and brother). People like Marilyn who so clearly have a positive impact upon all who meet them — are special. May she rest peacefully and continue to find joy in her funny stories and experiences…out there in the big hereafter.

Marilyn you were a wonderful friend. We had lovely chats in your apartment overlooking the beautiful canal. Then as you moved around we continued our friendship. You were always upbeat and cheerful. May you rest in peace. We will meet again.

Marilyn and I met at the Canadian Firgure Skating Championships in Ottawa. We both spent the entire week at the arena. It was like we had known each other for many years. We just shared many skating memories and I spent a week with her at her apartment a few years later to watch another skating championship. The week was wonderful. every time skating was televised her and I shared our thoughts during that week. I will definitely miss my skating friend and our many talks.

Marilyn and I met at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in Ottaw. we both spent the week at the arena to ensure we saw all of the skaters. It was a magical week. A few years later I went to Ottawa to spend a week with Marilyn at her apartment for another Skating Championship week. We had another great time. I will miss my skating friend. We were always on the phone ensuring what channel and time for our events.
