Don was first my teacher then mentor and colleague. He was a well read man and was always ready to help or share his knowledge. I will miss most of all his hearty laugh and sense of humour. I will always remember his sound advice, his encouraging words and endearing friendship.

Don was my long time travel companion and friend as we traveled the world together on multiple assignments related to the aviation industry. He was always ready to help, to
mentor, and to listen. Our coffee meetings were time to reflect on past adventures as much as on current events. I will miss him deeply. My wife and I send our deepest condolences to the Smith family.

Don was my teacher, coach and mentor while working at Transport Canada. As a Junior High Classroom teacher, I arrived at Transport not knowing anything about how the Federal Government worked. Don took me under his wing and ensured that I not only succeeded, I grew both personally and professionally along the way. Ultimately, Don became a life long friend and inspiration. I was blessed to have known him.
I will always remember Don as the faithful, loving and generous husband, father and friend that he was. Always ready to give everything in exchange for nothing.
