It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Erika Lieselotte Hedwig de Loë on October 26th, 2024, at the age of 89. Erika was born on August 11th, 1935, in Essen, Germany, to Josef and Hildegard (née Augst) Frohn.
Known for her vibrant personality and caring nature, Erika was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose kindness and strength were a source of comfort to all who knew her. She was married to her beloved husband, Frederik, and together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, creating a warm and nurturing home for their family after arriving in Canada. The love Erika had for her family inspired a strong devotion within her children and grandchildren, who adored her deeply, and are grateful to have been present during her final days.
Erika is survived by her husband Frederik, her sister Ursula, her four sons, Andre, Robert, Frederik, and Roderik, and her grandchildren, Katherine, Benjamin, Lily, Beatrice, Alice, and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her father Josef, her mother Hildegard, her brother Klaus, and her grandson Christophe.
A lover of sweets and nature, Erika enjoyed afternoon tea in her garden, where she spent time chatting with her husband Fred, watching the birds, and exploring with her grandchildren when they visited. She possessed a unique ability to find beauty in her surroundings and went to great lengths to share many art forms with those she loved — whether at an art gallery, in a cherished book, or after foraging a collection of acorns and clover from the backyard. Her warmth, laughter, and guidance shaped the lives of her family, although at times her young boys did not always appreciate her commitment to having every last bit of food she prepared being eaten. “Ein kleines Klecksen” (one tiny dollop) would be followed by a decidedly large spoonful to empty the pot. While our hearts mourn her loss, we take comfort in her finding peace and will look for her in every ladybug we see.
A memorial service will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on October 31st, 2024, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

I send my sincere condolences during this time of deep sorrow. The Bible gives a comforting hope that your loved one will come to life again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4.
