It is with broken hearts we say goodbye to the sweetest of men, Timothy McGill Smith - Tim. Dearly beloved husband for over 40 years of Jeannie Smith (nee Doak), proud and loving dad of Owen Smith and Alexandra Zewuster, honoured father-in-law of Brandon Zewuster, cherished Gramps of Griffin, Sadie, Sutton and Grace, and baby brother of Doug (Katrin), Rick (Mary) and Mike.  Predeceased by his loving parents, Charles and Mary Smith. He will be fondly remembered as Timmer or Timmy by his brothers- and sisters-in-laws, cousins and friends, and goofy Uncle Tim by many nieces and nephews, while “oh Tim!” will forever be epitomized in the hearts of a special few.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Tim was an accomplished high school athlete who has maintained close ties with many of his Hillcrest friends. Following University, he had a long career as an Account Executive in telecommunications and informatics before having the privilege of doing Government Relations and Communications for the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. It was those last ten years of his career he cherished the most as he forged friendships with many dedicated professionals he held in such high regard.

The soft soul that he was, Tim heroically endured many years of illness and isolation both pre and post double lung transplant in Nov. 2019, with a smile on his weary face, a silly gleam in his beautiful blue eyes and a warm embrace for all.  Forever thankful for the gift of life he was given, Tim was a strong advocate for organ donation who insisted on paying it forward if he could.  He is at peace given his wishes came true, the donation of his kidneys to two recipients in need.

Tim’s and our sincerest gratitude go to: Dr. Shawn Aaron and his Executive Assistant, Leslie Goulding, who showed unparalleled care and concern over many years; to family doctor, Dr. Christine Kuntz for her gentle hand; all the doctors and nurses at the University Health Network, Toronto, especially transplant surgeon, Dr. Marcelo Cypel, and transplant medical director, Dr. Aman Sidhu; and lastly, the doctors and nurses of The Ottawa General Hospital ICU who so professionally and caringly ensured his peaceful passing.

Friends, colleagues and family, are invited to gather for a celebration of life on Monday July 29th, 2024, at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa: 11am -1pm, visitation; 1-2pm Service; and 2-4pm reception.

In lieu of flowers, save a life, become a donor.

I could not have experienced a happier childhood, in no small part because of people like Tim who was always so kind and respectful to everyone, including runts like me. What a wonderful soul. Rest in peace.

We are heartbroken to learn that Tim has passed. We have so many fond memories of parties at Unitel when we were all much younger. A picture of Tim dancing on a table to Billy Idol comes to mind. We send our deepest condolences to Jeannie, Owen, Alex and all the people whose lives were touched by Tim.❤️

Tim was a wonderful man. His sense of humour was 2nd to none - and the love and care he gave to his family and friends had no limit. I feel privileged to say he was my friend - he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to you Jeanie and your family. Though I only saw Tim infrequently and the family reunion he left a lasting impression. He was such a perfect match for you. My thoughts will be with you.
