Kenneth Wood died peacefully at his home in Kanata, Ont., at the age of 96. He leaves his beloved wife of 31 years, Ellen Clare O'Gallagher, his children Beth (Oleg), Stephen (Barb), Nancy (Martin), David (Meghan), his stepchildren Kathleen Jette (Gerry), Carol Wilkins (Glenn) and Suzan Acker (Scott), his 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first and second wives, Carol Marjorie Martin and Eleanor Marie Martin. Ken was born in Regina, Sask., to Dorothy Alberta Duncan and Senator Thomas Harold Wood. He was educated at Ridley College and at the University of Toronto. He became a chemical engineer and worked most of his life at C-I-L, settling on the South Shore of Montreal, where he raised his family. He was an avid skier and an enthusiastic cyclist, riding into his early nineties. When those sports began to seem too risky as he aged, he settled on long walks.
He loved music. He played classical guitar, was part of the CAMMAC musical family for years and sang in Ottawa’s Welsh choir. He became interested in genealogy and painstakingly researched not only his own family tree but those of most of his children’s spouses as well. He loved photography and the outdoors, opera and literature. He was dearly loved by his family and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
