It is with great sadness that we announce that on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Chang Yin Chen passed away at the Villa Marconi Nursing Home at the age of 97. Chang Yin bravely battled cancer during the past year.

After a distinguished career as an educator, Chang Yin immigrated to Canada in 1982 from Taishan, China.  He was predeceased by his parents, Din Hing Chan (father) and King Chi Lee (mother), and sisters, Yuk Moi Chu and Yuk Sim Lee.  He leaves behind his beloved wife, Hang Bor Wong, sons, Philip (Doris) and Yat-Choi (Suyun), and daughters, Margaret (Thompson), Anna (Juan) and Fanny (Sam). He was the cherished grandfather to Gilbert (Kristy), Herbert (Terri), Selena (Kiet) and Juliana (Courtny), Albert, Henry, Gary, Joellyn, Anthony (Ungelli) and Leon (Eileen); and great grandfather to Conner, Lauren, Tyler, Harper, Olivia, Evan, Finley and Shay. Also, he will be greatly missed by nephews, nieces and cousins living in China, Canada and the USA.

The family is grateful to all the dedicated doctors who treated Chang Yin during his period of illness, and extend their sincere thanks to them. Also, the family wishes to extend their gratitude and sincere thanks to the staff members of the Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital, Greystone Village Retirement/Transitional Care and the Villa Marconi Nursing Home, where Chang Yin resided during his final days of life, for their dedicated and caring service to him.

Friends and family may pay their respects at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre on Friday, August 4 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. A service to celebrate Chang Yin’s life will take place at Beechwood on Saturday, August 5 from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery to follow. An invitation is extended to all family and friends to join them for a 1:30 pm lunch at the Shanghai One Restaurant, 1872 Merivale Rd., Ottawa.
