Passed away peacefully in her home at Oakpark Retirement Community in Ottawa on April 19th, 2023, just short of her 98thbirthday. Predeceased by her beloved husband George Leonard Frederick (May 7th, 2020), parents Josef and Magdalena Zeller, siblings Stefan, Rudi, Mary and Magdalena. Amelia is survived by her four daughters: Pamela (Wayne), Marie, Linda (John), and Dianne (Gilles), and by her two grandchildren Amelia and Peter-Nicholas.

Amelia was born in Herzegovina, Bosnia, (Yugoslavia) on June 3, 1925. In 1930 along with her two younger brothers the family immigrated to Hamilton, Canada in search of a better life. In her teens Amelia chose to leave school to help with the family finances and the war effort by working at Westinghouse. Although unable to finish her own formal schooling Amelia knew the value of a good education and was an avid and voracious reader of almost any topic. Amelia was very active in her church community and cycling club. She met her future husband through the church youth group. They married July 22, 1950, and moved to Ottawa in 1955 starting their family there that year. In 1966/67 the family moved to Cambridge, England. They explored as many countries as possible during that year from their home base in Cambridge, and (re) connected with many family members.  On their return to Canada the travels that Amelia had always yearned for continued with family vacations from coast to coast, and then more vacation times in Europe for just the two of them.

Amelia will always be remembered by everyone as a gracious, kind, elegant and gentle lady, who was full of love.

We would like to express our gratitude to ALL the staff, her ‘adopted family’, at Oakpark and the MLC team of health care workers. You made her life comfortable and safe. Thank you for your love, kindness, dedication & care to our mother. Our gratitude also to Dr Farey for her kind, compassionate care. We can not thank you all enough, nor could our mother. There will be a private graveside service April 25th at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. In lieu of flowers a donation to either of the following would be much appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom has had a great life, raising her children and always seemed so full of life in her pictures. She had a great smile. It’s never easy no matter how old they are to let go.
