Passed away peacefully with his wife Susan by his side after a courageous battle with dementia. Beloved father of David (Karen), Debbie (Vance), Angelique (Mitch), Tanya (deceased), Sherry (Jonathan) and loved by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Born in Gananoque, Ontario, Jim joined the RCMP March 23rd,1960 and was posted to Powell River B.C. before being transferred to RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa to work in intelligence. While in Ottawa Jim graduated with a political science degree from Carleton University and was awarded the Senate medal for academic achievement. He joined the Canadian Security Intelligence Service upon its creation in 1984 ending his career in 1995 as Deputy Director Operations.

He was a voracious reader, keen golfer, jack of all trades and some of his hobbies included collecting stamps, coins, rock & minerals and working with his hands. Jim was a long-time member of Camelot Golf and Country club, and his love of travel took him to every corner of the world. He was a fountain of knowledge and had an opinion on just about everything. Jim was devoted to Susan, the love of his life, during 48 years of marriage. A bon vivant until the end, he cherished time with family and enjoyed life to the fullest. Jim will be sorely missed. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to all the staff on 4C at Residence Saint-Louis for providing such excellent care of Jim.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Beechwood National Memorial center on Sunday April 23rd from 2pm-4pm with Words of Remembrance at 3pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Bruyère Foundation or the Dementia Society.

Our deepest sympathy to Susan and family. A brilliant mind has passed but we hold the fond memories of a friend we met in 1964. Jim’s battle is over, may God grant him eternal rest.

Our deepest sympathy to Susan and family. We have great memories of Jim. A bon vivant and as the obituary points out he had an opinion on just about anything but in such a friendly and often humorous way. A very bright guy. I (Gerry) have enjoyed his company at golf and on tasks for many years at Camelot. He will be missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family. On a very personal note I would like to acknowledge how proud your mother and sister, Gwenanne, were of you and your service to the RCMP and CSIS. I grew up hearing the stories about Uncle Jim, that often made you seem larger than life, but you didn’t disappoint. You were a great role model for myself and the other family members that followed you into service.
Enjoy your much deserved rest
Love Janet (#43123) and Mauro (#42982)

Karen and I extend our deepest sympathy to Susan and to Jim's entire family on this significant loss. Our relationship with Jim and Susan goes back some 40 years. As the Chief of CSE I (Stewart) had a very close working relationship with Jim in his CSIS capacity, and I was invariably impressed by his intelligence, knowledge, and commitment to our country's values. Jim was a man of integrity, with strong principles and sense of duty. Socially, Jim and Susan have been close and warm friends of Karen and me for many years, and we so thoroughly enjoyed Jim's humour, his capacity for fun, and his fundamental kindness and decency. Rest in peace, our dear friend - you have certainly earned it.

My deepest condolences to Susan and family. Whether playing golf, or sharing stories of our tenure in the bureaucracy, spending time with Jim was unmitigated pleasure, clashing views be damned! A great guy!
