Pura Tenai was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on April 7, 2022 at age 96.
She was born to Jesus and Usina Del Valle Obeso in the village of Pimiango, Spain on October 22, 1925. Sister to many siblings, her work brought her to Ottawa in the late 1950s where she met her beloved and surviving husband, Steve Tenai. Over their 63 years of marriage, they raised 2 children, Katalin and Steve Jr., and adored their 4 grandchildren: James, Matthew, Andrew and Catherine.
Pura loved returning to Spain for visits and, when their children were older, she and Steve spent their winters in Spain near to where she was born. Those annual trips to Spain, and time with her siblings and their families, brought Pura great joy. She especially enjoyed returning to her village in March for the annual San Emeterio festival.
A dedicated wife and mother, Pura put the welfare of her family above everything. A hearty cook, no one ever left her home without being offered (repeatedly) much food.
Pura is survived by her loving husband, Steve Tenai, who cared for her at their home to the very end, her children Katalin Tenai and Steve J. Tenai (and their respective spouses Robert Taverna and Jane Greaves), her grandchildren James Fenton and Matthew, Andrew and Catherine Tenai, her brother Jesus Del Valle (and sister-in-law Julia), her sister Maria Jesus, brother-in-law Ferenc Tenai, her sister-in-law Karen Tenai, and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will take place starting at noon in advance of the funeral service on Thursday, April 14 at 1 p.m. in the Sacred Space at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the memorial centre.

Pura and Steve were very gracious hosts and certainly fed us well when we visited them in Ottawa.
If I was lucky on a visit to Steve and Jane's house in Toronto Jane would be making the famous "Guela's soup". This was the soup Pura taught her to make, generously sharing her specialty. That was always a special treat.

Louiselle is joining me to say our sympathy to you and your family.
Although I did not have the privilege to meet Pura, I know she was a remarkable mother as she raised a wonderful son in Steve Jr who I consider to be a dear friend. My condolences to the family during this difficult time.
