Sadly, Captain Brian David Thorne passed away peacefully on March 5, 2022.  Loving husband of Muriel for over 60 years. Proud father of Jeremy, Hugh, David, and Richard. A grateful father-in-law to wives & partners. Thrilled “Granddadit” to beautiful grand and great-grand kids. Brian was a family man who truly loved each and every one of us. He was blessed with a wonderful personality and left a positive impression with each encounter. A passionate man, he cared greatly about work, his home, and, of course, his ships. Brian’s distinguished marine career meant a life of adventure on and off the sea that sometimes put him in the presence of prominent people and events in history. Fond memories of Britannia Yacht Club and the many times he set sail from there to satisfy his appetite for being on the water at the whims of the wind. He will be missed by many.

The family’s tremendous appreciation for all the incredible doctors and staff who provided him the exceptional healthcare he received over the years. Special mention concerning the superb level of care and compassion provided at Hôpital Montfort (Medical Day Unit).

A celebration of life will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share their memories of Brian. Refreshments will be served.

Donations in memoriam may be made to the Montfort Foundation to support the amazing work and services the hospital provides in support of our community.

We were so sad to hear about Brian's passing. He always impressed us with his dedication to his family, his friendliness, his interest in others, his great sense of humour, and his amazing tenacity in caring for his home and property.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Muriel and all the family.

Mike and Tricianne.
